Don't laugh so loud!

Our 03 Maxima will be built by union of United States of America!

They don't give a BLEEPITY BLEEP about quality, they just finish off the work and call it done.

Don't swear in forums I moderate Sparky. Go contemplate why Nissan doesn't have a F1 style tranny in their auto maximas.

So why is it that American-built vehicles are lower in quality? It's not the technology? Is it the people? When I was in Florida I found that Americans like Canadian employees for some reason. Anyways they liked my work so much they tried to recruite me. May be I should have taken the job now that I reflect upon it. $60,000 Canadian vs $70,000 US. 60 degrees vs -10 Celsius. Beach girls vs. Igloo girls

Actually, you'll notice most American trucks have excellent build quality. I know our '00 GMC Sierra has excellent excellent build quality, and so does our '98 Silverado. And from what I can tell from riding in a few Fords and Dodges (as much as I hate them), they seem to have excellent build quality too. Now why American cars have such crappy build quality, I couldnt tell ya...

Actually, the Silvarado has structural integrity problems. Consumer reports gave it an unacceptable rating 2 years ago because of it.

2 yrs ago as in the older body style or the new body style? Also, the structural integrity of the GM trucks is much much better than Ford and Dodge, especially on the extended cabs.

Man a lot of them don't like their cars! I really hope that wakes some TL-S lovers up! We should make that link a sticky for all the TL-S VS Maxima newbie/lurker/acura owners!

American companies have been building rear wheel drive, body on frame V8s forever. Maybe that explains why trucks, suvs and Crown Vics, etc. are good and others not.

i've driven a nissan maxima for the last 10 years (other cars too, but my main ride has always been a maxima). i figure, like ALL things, u always want more. even maxima drivers want a little more power (mods). if we were completely happy, we'd all have stock cars... but where's the fun in that? my friend's got an m3 (modded), and a gxr1000 susuki motorcycle (modded). if i had any other car to drive, you'd better believe it's not gonna stay stock for sure, be it an acura, nissan, infiniti...etc. if i owned a ferarri, i'd bet i'll be looking to see what's "available" within a few months.

I have a TL-S also and love it. Not a lurker or troll either here or there Had 3 Maxima/infiniti, so I can compare them. Over all the TL-S is a better product, but also costs more. They could use a little better Q control in a few minor spots on the interior of the car though. My last infiniti had a mess of things with it all by 7K miles from minor to foggy head lights and a roof that would reopen to the car not running with MAF failure, so it can happen to a few cars out of many with any brand.

They wont be built by union workers. UAW has yet to infiltrate any of the japanese automakers' plants in the US. Every time the companies have the employees vote on joining the union, they vote not to join by almost 2 to 1.

UAW is so mad about this, they've tried to sue the japanese companies into forcing their employess to join.

This is just one more reason I'll never buy an American car...

I am a TLS owner now, sigh

Dont know if any of you remember me, I had 2 Maximas: a 96se and a 99se both were great cars and i have no idea what made me purchase the TLS. Its 6 months old and has 5k miles on it. Rattles like crazy, body feels like it flexes all the time, been back to the dealer 5 times in 5 months, etc..... If i could do it again id purchase the 2k2 Max.

Money. Profit.

Trucks to a manufacurer are waaaaay more profitable than cars.

I think it has a lot to do with the unmotivated UAW workers who build the cars in the US. They don't care if they do a good job or not. They get paid the same regardless.

I'm a TL-S owner also -- no problems here, love the car.

I think most people on the TL-S board would agree that I'm pretty unbiased when I talk about the TL-S and the Maxima .. I've loved both cars since I've known about each. I'm very interested in the 2k2 Max 6-spd b/c of the 6-spd and the new engine. I haven't spent enough time in the new gen. Maxi's to know enough about their build quality.

I agree w/ CrzyAcura .. if you're going to take three owner's hatred for their TL-S's and exploit it .. amen

There is one union transplant facility in the US - the Mazda plant in Flat Rock (Probe, MX6, 626 and now Cougar). The UAW is still licking their wounds from the drubbing they took in the Nissan Smyrna, TN plant vote last year - I believe that was the 4th time the employees voted it down....lessee...they already have fair wages, a good work environment, good benefits....tell me again what the UAW has to offer these folks that they don't already have???

I had a 90 Probe and a 92 Accord in the garage at the same time (1992-1995)- both were made by US workers, and the difference was pretty apparent -the Honda fit and finish was leaps and bounds above the Probe. Ironically enough, I went through 3 manual trannys on the Probe, and they were built in Japan (just like the current TL-S tranny).

That said, my Opppma, Japan built Maxima has a much better fit/finish than my Marysville,Ohio built TLS. I'll think long and hard before buying an '03 or later Maxima built here. G35 may be my next ride.
