Light bulb comparison - With PICS!!

I bought three sets of higher wattage bulbs from JC whitney and I compared them to my Piaa SuperWhites.

Here are the pictures.
And Yes I do have an upgraded wiring harness.

Good write-up...

I can't believe that the Xenons are so bright.

Good comparison.

The Xenons def look bright.

I think the Xenons are a bit brighter then the Diamond Blues.

That is the best light comparison I've ever seen. Thanks for going to all the trouble.

Excellent writeup. I'm running the Diamon Blues and find that there pretty descent. More so for the HID look then anything else. The visibility is pretty good as you noted. I think these bulbs, both the Diamond Blue and the Zenon blue are the best HID imitators on the market. Most of the others I've tried, including Naxos and APC are so blue you can't even see them on the road. These bulbs from JC whitney at lease throw off some useable light and the price is right too. I was going to try out the Zenon bulbs myself. I'm glad you did that dirty work for me! I'll wait till one of mine blow out then probably switch to the Zenon one.

Thanks again for the useful information.

One can have the same or better performance with a pair of Philips BlueVisions for less than half the price.

Philips BlueVisions can be found in most autoparts stores or here:

www.fosmo.com
www.autooptiks.com
www.autolamps-online.com

Don't pay more than $30 for a pair.

PIAA SWs can be found all over the internet and in your local rice-boy shop...be prepared to pay more than $60 for the pair.

Re: Light bulb comparison - With PICS!!

An upgraded wire harness won't make a difference if you stick with stock wattage, right? You'd only get the harness if you plan to use overwattage bulbs, right?

If anyone has tried out the new Silverstar bulbs from Osram, please share your feedback. I saw them at Autozone, they're about $50 a pair. Kinda pricey unless they match PIAA SW's!

Osram claims it to be the best 'stock' bulbs out there. Any truth? I dunno!

Correct, the wiring harness doesn't do anything with stock bulbs.

Also, the philips blue visions can be found at Kmart. I've seen these side by side with my piaa's and they are identical. I got my piaa's for a great price, but if they ever blow, I'd replace them with the philips bulbs (cause they are much cheaper)

If you want bulbs more for look, check out the xenon, but again the visibility was somewhat lacking but not totally horrible.
One Note: Shipping from JC Whitney is pricy.

I agree, I have the Super Plasma H3's in the Fogs, and they match my STOCK HID perfectly !... They are the bulbs that have that purpleish-mirrored tinit on them. They are not cheap, but they are the best ! even though some might be " TOO CHEAP " to buy them !

What is everyone using for their corner lights (1157/1156)? I have the stock bulbs rewired. I tried the Piaa xtreme's but they made my headlights look too yellow, but they looked good with my fogs.

You've got to be kidding. PIAA is a company that made it big selling rice accessories and foglamps. Philips is a world-wide company that designs and manufactures OE lighting equipment for cars all over the world, not including it's non-automotive lighting equipment. You're comparing Hyundai to BMW here.

Nice writeup. Also, you're the 1st person I've seen who's done lighting comparos and take into account the varying light conditions by using the same shutter speed throughout. Excellent.
