Souped up Geo Metro
#1
I was on the freeway yesterday behind a geo metro doing about 68mph in the left lane of a 3-lane freeway. Aparently he was waiting for a break in traffic to pull into the center lane like I was. Finally a space opened up on a curve and he pulls into the center lane and I down shift to 3rd and pull into the far right lane on the outside of the curve. I expected to overtake him super easy but I didn't pass him til I was at about 5000-5400 RPM in 3rd. I could hear his engine which was obviously not stock. At any rate, he continued on zig zagging through traffic and running in the emergency lane, squeezing through the smallest of holes between cars. Is there some underground of hot rod metros out there? I've never seen a turbo/charger advertised for a metro. I figure he had N2O. Just thought it was interesting.

There were some Chevy Sprints (? I think that was the car - sibling of the Metro) back in the late 80's/early 90's that came with a turbocharged version of the POS 1.0L 3-cyl motor. Although it still wasn't a fast car, it doesn't take a genius to figure out that if you do some minor tweaking to the engine and manage to get even just 120 HP, a 1500 lb car will move pretty good. That guy may have done a transplant or something like that.

It's still a swift...no matter how you cut it, but I respect the power it pumps out.

I KNEW somebody was going to make that comment. Anway I have rented geo metros 2 or 3 times when I had mechanical work done on another vehicle. I literally had to turn the AC off to get on the freeway to get to 70 MPH. So I know their stock 70 ponies are slow.
But like I said, I did pass him, he just had some extra help somewhere. And I road kill way more than I get road killed.
Can't we all just get along?

My old roommate had a early 90's metro that had cut springs, really wide tires and a sound system that was worth more than the car. . . It was quite a funny thing to see. . .If I can find pics I'll post them, but for some reason, I think I got rid of them all.

the metro is make by suzuki and they make a sibling of the car called the swift. There is a swift gti or gsi or gt or something. Anyway, it may have been a goosed up one of these. Also, in addition to the stock 1.0 3cyl there is also a 1.3 4cyl avail. I believe that the swift gt has a doch version on the 1.3 and is actually sorta quick considering the damn thing only weighs about 35 pounds loaded with rocks. I figgure fab a cai, strait exhaust and a larger tb with a fuel pressure boost and walla, you've got a hot rod turd.

Actually, the Storm is an Isuzu (Stylus)...
I had a '93 Storm GSI...it is (was) a GM badged Isuzu Stylus w/ the "Lotus tuned suspension"...actually it was a pretty fun car, and I racked 180,000 miles on it with only one clutch, 3 sets of brakes, and 2 sets of plugs having been replaced.
It was a very reliable car for me, and pretty quick stock. if it wasn't for the kids, I'd probably have got another one.
