Seeking advice: Rm repair shop F'ed up one of my rims beyond repair....

So I'm in this predicament. I have a set of rims that are discontinued. I took two of the rims to get refinished. The shop somehow F'ed up one of the rims beyond repair when they were putting the tires on. The shop said they are responsible and will replace my rim. They have been looking for this rim for like two months now and still haven't been able to find a replacement. They said if they can't find it, they're just going to pay for the value of my one rim.

I feel kinda ripped off because I could end up with three rims that I can't use anymore and they're just gonna pay for one rim which would be about 390-400. My question is....would it be fair or reasonable for me to ask them to get me a full set (of rims similar in size and quality) since my rims are discontinued and i would have no use for three rims anymore or is it fair for me to just take the cash of the one rim??

I wanna hear what you guys think about this.

I would think they would be responsible for the one they screwed up. You didn't give them a full set...you only gave them 2 for refinishing.

If you are polite and state your case and reasoning, and depending on how honest and resonable the shop is, they might pay you for the full set, but not at retail prices due to it being discontinued.

full set..any thing less is bull, bring up the argument that now that one is fd up than you cant use any of them now, better d*mn well believe i would be making a HUGE scene if they didnt pay for a new set...or say the rim is worth a butt load of money so you can buy the new set

i see what your saying BUT whats he gonna do with the other three, its like bringing your glasses to get a lens redone, and they saying they messed it up bad but heres your glasses back with out the other lens. three rims without the other one are worthless, now i wouldnt walk in and blow up on them, be polite and what not but if need be dont be afraid to get mad if you feel like your getting screwed

Here's what I think. Your rim was imperfect when you brought it to them, and they are trying to help you out. You should ask them to buy the three good rims at $300-$400 each. That could net you $900-$1,200. $1,200 could buy some decent rims (more than I would ever pay for).

If you ask them to buy you a new set for one "ruining" one that came to them imperfect in the first place, they might just laugh at you.

You could always just sit on the three rims until you have a camper or boat trailer to use them on, two on the road and one spare.

They're 5zigen Fn01rc. I called 5zigen today and was able to snag the last rim in the exact size and offset. They should be here next week and the shop will powdercoat them to match.

Hopefully this will all work out ok. Thanks guys for all the opinions.

Even though you found the solution to your problem, I'd send pics of the damaged rims to Weldcraft. They can pretty much fix anything as long as the rims not twisted. If they can fix them, you'll have a spare. Weldcraft is located in Michigan and they have a good reputation for widening & narrowing rims.

I have discontinued wheels also, and its a very nervous situation to be in if you really like them and don't want to loose them.

Are they a reverse mount tire? how in the world did they Fubar them?

glad you called the parent company and got it ordered! amazing luck really. nice post pics of the wheels if u can
