The Maxima engine also utilizes the Nissan Valve Timing Control System (NVTCS) variable valve timing and lift management. Electronically controlled sensors measure throttle position and engine speed to activate the variable intake valve timing mechanism to meet demands on the engine. The NVTCS system helps provide better performance at lower engine speeds, without sacrificing high speed power output or fuel economy.
I got this from the www.nissannews.com website about the 1999 Maxima. As far as I was concerned only the 3rd gens had VTC, but then I read this.

To read it, goto the www.nissannews.com, click on Products by the Nissan section, click on 1999, then on the white Maxima.

Re: What the hell?? Is this true? About VTC on 4th gens

1) Only the 3-gen 92-94 VEs had VTCs
2) No 4-gen VQs in the usa had VTCs.
3) The new 3.5 Liter VQs on the 2002 maxima/infinitis have VTCs. But now it's infinitely varible, not just on/off like the 3-gen versions.

VTC = VE30DE = ticky = drives people insane from the noise ( a look at Jeff92se's post history just confirms the last part of the equation)

VTC now equals VQ35DE as well...........

ok thanks!..and to make this on topic:

Why do I have a 'boost sensor' located by the intake scoop on top of the grill?? What does that sensor 'sense'?? I always wondered that.

Thanks

Yes, as just yesterday the "boost sensor" question was answered by me and therefore should never have to be brought up again.

But then, neither should spark plug questions.....

Sprint, my cookie was yummy....
