The Prelude and Maxima experience are very different. I have to bring my rpms up high and slip the clutch and shift at an indicated 8K rpms (actually 7.6K.....stupid stock tach ). The Maxima is a very easy car to launch. I miss that. Do any of you guys know what the 2K2 autos and 6spds run in the quarter? I'm going to do cams and cam gears (tuned ofcourse) as well as a port and polish. I hope to be at 14 flat or maybe even very high 13s with all that and a warm track surface.

 

DMB ran 14.3 back to back in his 2k2 6 speed. DMB was very new to driving sticks when this took place. I forget the fellows name with the 2k2 auto which ran a 14.4.

 

YIKES!!! Warrens and 96sleepers are the only Maxs I've seen at the track I go to. There are a few Civics with 18" rims that struggle to break into the 17s . DMB doesn't live in the Southeast does he (lip trembling)?

Those are great times. Are you running with a Quaife or stock open diff? The SHO is a PITA to launch. I find that a rolling burnout on street tires (60 profile all season junk for me) with about 20 psi up front is the way to go for me. Rev up to about 3 G and just dump the clutch hard. I used to slip it, this and that, but I found that this combination works best. My best 60' is only a 2.3 and that wasn't even my fastest run though. I definetly have no traction with my 50 series dunlop SP8K's; not enough sidewall to flex and hookup. Which clutch are you getting from FPS?

I have the stock differential. It is a pain to launch, but I was getting better. With a warmer track I think that 2.2's would be attainable on the stock set up I have now.

With that the car would have ran low 14's easily, especially with the 97+ m.p.h. traps speed. I haven't decided on the clutch yet, I am going to talk to FPS this week. The lady on the phone wasn't the most informative. She said to talk with Doug. I should also gain another 1-2 m.p.h. with a clutch that isn't slipping.

My best times came from bogging it off of the line and then gradually depressing the throttle, but I was starting to get better with launching it a little harder. That night was terrible for traction, for everyone. The ground was really cold, and the track ppl were not doing anything to remedy the traction. A daytime run should net another 2/10's off of my 60 ft. times.
