SERIOUSLY considering going from 3rd Gen to 4th ???

i wanted to buy outright around $7500 a 95/96 SE or 97+ GXE(5spd of course)...I been pricin them out and the 95/96 are less expensive...i have a 91 SE 5SPD which i plan on gettin close to 3000 for when i finish payin the 2100 i owe...but i have a few questions about 4th gens...the front grill, bumper,do the 97-99 swap right onto the 95/96,tails,and trunk, because i think the 97-99 is a lot better lookin car with the grill and all, reason i dont wanna finance is because with NJ full coverage and me being only 19 and all,ill be payin upwards of $5000 a year,so i only wanna keep liability and possibly comprehensive..i keep my car in my backyard and drive it less than 100 miles a week so i wouldnt be too worried about claims, but i know anything can happen, but anyway,i was just curious because im sure someone here has a 95/96 that they converted to a 97-99,and how hard it is to do this if its even possible

Yes, but the rear bumper needs alot of support due to the 4" lengthening so supports are put in place, you need the trunk for the lights to fit correctly, aand you need to remove something from the front bumper forget what it is. the headlights you need to drill a whole for the relocation of "1" screw.

Wow, I think I've found someone with insurance in the $5k range. And it was said it couldn't be done. You can take some classes to drop that insurance bill a tad. Grades can also take a good chunk of it off. Okay, I'm leadin off subject. Go back to whatever was being discussed.

damn i just read the 4th gen sticky about this, and its too much, looks like id be a lot better off buying a 97,all i wanted was the front bumper, grill and tails, but that involves too much garbage,so either i get a 95/96 and put my tail between my legs or just get the 97+

ya know, i thought about a 4th gen untill i drove one. . . the ONLY way i could deal with it is if it was boosted, and really hooked up. i like phil's 4th gen, but i've driven a few others and wasn't that thrilled. . . . they're supposed to be lighter but they feel heavier in the corners. . .. .i dunno, i like my tossability

I put 97 headlights on my 95 and did not have to drill any holes. Every thing lined up perfectly.

They aren't "supposed" to be lighter, they are lighter. We don't have IRS like 3rd gens though, which may be what you are describing. A rear sway bar will totally change your mind about the handling of any 4th gen.
