Move over Max give the new kid a shot!!
Finally made the move and bought a G to race for next year. Its an 03 Coupe in Obsidian black, 5AT of course. So far its got a new 3" catback courtesy of Vibrant and it looks and sounds great. It has 110k on it but no accidents and body is really good. It has taken me 6 months to find the one I wanted.
It will stay pretty much stock until I take it to Fl in Nov where I will buy all the stuff I want. ie Solid mounts, diff, Transgo, headers, catdelete, brakes, Haltech, air suspension etc etc. My slicks and skinnies, meth injection, nitrous plus a lot of other stuff I can transfer from the Maxima. I have 3 more races this year with the Maxima and then in Sep its going.
Love driving this car, it sure has a lot more curb appeal, I feel like a sugar daddy. Not removing any creature comforts and going to install a small condensate container so I can run the a/c at the track.
So far the G community hasn't made any great strides to go fast so I should be able to make an impact there. Most of them can't think outside the box and that is a must if you want to make a car faster. I'm not trying to break any records but if they happen in the course of my travel so be it. My goal is only to have it run a high 11 with a small shot so I can race semi-pro where the money is.
PS The Veteran plate was my birthday present to make my competition feel sorry for an old guy and let me win.

Well, IIRC Mardigradmax TT'ed his G, so I can only assume he's putting down decent times, given his abilities to do so with a 4th gen. Now you two can duel is out again on a different platform! Congrats on the purchase, has the Max found a new home yet?

I could have sold it but I need so much stuff off it for the G that there wouldnt be much left so its going to the big car home in the sky. Will sell whats left, UTEC, Wideband, HD2 valvebody etc. My slicks, skinnies, suprastick, nitrous, meth injection etc is going to the G.

Hmmm, I think if I am looking at having a quick G35 I will do the same thing that made my Maxima quick.
When I first started with the Maxima 10 years ago all the experts said "manual transmission, turbo or sc and built block is the only way to go". My Maxima has none of those and neither will my G. Its very difficult to pass if you are following.

I guess because I am going to race it and the quickest Maxima happens to be an auto so why would I settle for something that would be slower, ie a manual transmission? I've proven that a FWD auto is quicker than a manual, now I am going to try and do the same with a RWD.

Took the G to the track last night to get a baseline before I do any mods. Was a little disappointed but I couldn't really expect more. 14.55 @ 97 with 2.2 60'.
Ran with streets and slicks, absolute dead-hook with both, streets were only .05 slower at 14.60 which did surprise me. Not used to having street tires hook like that, although its been years since I have tried them and they are winter tires not all-season.
Pic with my 12 yr old (going on 18) Grandaughter Hope, she loves her grandpa who takes her to the track.

Well you know me, it doesn't matter how fast its consistency that counts. I have never gone to the track to set a record. My 10.85 came at a race during time trials. My goal is to just get it to run 11.99 on a small shot to race semi-pro and sportsman (12-14) n/a. I remember my 2002 Max running 14.7 n/a before I did any work to it.

Maxima.org has been like a home for me the past 10 years or so. Met a lot of good folks and gleaned a lot of great information, thank you to allo who have helped me.
I almost upgraded the Max to a newer one and was going to install the HR but when I saw the price of the G5 coupe I couldn't resist. It was only $8k which is not much more than I paid for my Maxima. I do plan on putting the HR in this one too when I blow up the DE so I am trying to make sure my upgrades are ones that will work for either engine.
Moving up to the Haltech and UPREV will be nice too, the UTEC isn't the easiest to tune and is finicky in cold weather and idle conditions.

Have you confirmed if the Suprastick will work with the 5AT?

Also have you been talking to Andre lately on the TC? I'm hoping to get something working for the 5at with a higher stall but I don't need it until next spring.

I've been talking to Garrett about that but still no definitive answer from him if he can change the setup to make it work. Regardless I can get it to shift myself by using a couple of relays to supply ground vs 12v to the manual mode switch. That way I can have it shift at different speeds so the shift will always occur at the same rpm regardless of when I start the shift. Can't do that with a window switch so I will use the SS, just not 100% how I will set it up yet.

I am still working with Andre at Edge Racing Converters with this 9.5" TC project. It should give me at least a 4500-5000rpm stall while, at the same time, being more efficient at laying down HP.
Right now, I am running a very loose 3500 stall 10.5" TC, which is very high considering that I am only producing about 290whp. If I sprayed a little 35 shot on the launch, I'd easily stall to 4K with this converter.
But the best TC I've tested so far is the most popular one, a 3K stall from Edge Racing. When I say "3K stall", I am referring to flashing at 3K with only the 290whp I'm making.
I had to force Andre to make me a 3500rpm after he warned me several times that by doing so will help my 60' times, but hurt my trap speed. Well, after testing the 3500 stall, he was right. I knew my trap speed would suffer, but I was hoping that it wouldn't suffer by much, resulting in a lower ET. I remember my 60 foot time going from 1.90 to 1.82 and my trap speed dropping from 115 to 113mph resulting in exactly the same 1/4 mile ET.
My engine doesn't make any real HP until it wakes up at 4100rpm. So, I have this horrible lag on my launches. If I can just find a way to launch at 4500+ rpm on the little bit of NA power I'm making, I will be able to launch in the meat of my powerband and finally see some decent 60 foots (1.7 or better). And by going to a smaller and lighter TC cover size, is the only way to do it properly.
I haven't talked with Andre in several months but I have been in communication with others at Edge Racing. Andre is the one that is in charge of building my custom 9.5" TC and he has had some health problems recently. But, Edge Racing is still in business and can make the race proven 3K stall 10.5" TC for anybody that needs one.
Andre should be back at work now. So I hope to give him a call soon to see about finally getting this 9.5" TC prototype installed in my car so I can test it at the track. As soon as I am able to see a 4.5K-5K stall, I will be able to finally get some aggressive cams installed and see some mid 11 second NA passes.
