Hmmmm.....

I checked out Discount Tire saw the Enkei RPO1 listed. These are a very clean thin 5-spoke wheel. These wheels would give my car a bit of a more "sleeper" appearance especially since the stock "Nissan" center cap will fit in the wheel. They look similar to the stock 5 spoke 16s, but the spokes are 2 times thinner. Lots of autocross guys swear by these rims. The Kosei K1s are a thin 6-spoke and are slightly more aggressive. Both wheels are weigh around 15.5 lbs in the 16" size which is pretty light. The RPO1 is $180 and the K1 is $160. What do you guys think?

I've always liked the RPO1s, but they aren't made in 17x8, so I didn't get 'em.

I thought RPO1's came in 17x8. JofLA (99Maxima SE) has 'em with his 235/45 Toyo RA1's on 'em.

I dunno. I prefer the look of the RPO1 to the K1, but on Barry Chafin's black 96 GXE, the 16x7.5" K1's look badass in anthricite (sp?).

Oh, maybe they do. I don't know. Maybe I'll get a set in the future then.

Hey Dave!

I did some calculations and 215/50-16's will give you about the same tire height as the stock 15" set up. I ask because I am considering purchasing the K1's?

What size tire are you going with?
Do you think that 215/50-16's would work on 7.5" wide rim?
Do the K1's come with center caps?
Has any one ever tried the BFG Comp TA VR4?

I was gonna go with 225/50s on the 16s at first because of the wide 7.5" rim, but I asked around, checked specs, and called the tire makers and it turns out the 225/50 were gonna be .3" too short on the average. It doesn't sound like a lot, but it will make your gaps look bigger as your tire wears down. Plus a 225/50 will be heavier. 215/50 would be way too short IMO. 215/55 comes out to be the correct size. I orginally ordered Kumho Supra 712, but then changed my mind because I'm gonna run these wheels and tires all year long in bad weather and on the track. I changed my order and got a set of Yokohama AVID V4s. Though not as aggressive as a tire as the Kumho, the Avid V4 will be able to take on almost everything thrown at it. I choose the V4s after asking around here and at the F-Body websites. Many agreed the Avid V4s were pretty sticky, handled good, were quiet, and wore decently well for the price ($85). I had Yokos on my old CRX Si and I just got a set for my wife's Altima. The Yokos will wear a little quicker, but they handle and stick really good.

I had the BFG VR4s in the 245/50 size on my 94 Z28 and I was very dissappointed with them. The tread pattern is ugly and the tires don't stick well on the track, in snow, in the wet, not do they handle good. They hardly showed wear though. I'd recommend against them.

According to the Tirerack, my K1s should be arriving from Japan to their warehouse today. They get 4 sets every 2-3 months and they are usually all claimed before they arrive. I ordered my wheels on Oct 25th and they were suppose to be here on the 11/2. We'll see what happens (keeping my fingers crossed). If you've got a blue or white Max you're in luck because they've got the white finish K1 in stock nearly all the time. I don't know if the K1s come with center caps or not. The Tirerack is always good about giving you everything you need. I've "heard" that the stock Nissan center caps will work which would be very cool. The anthracite finish isn't sold in the 16" size for the Max anymore I'll keep you guys posted about the wheels and I'll weigh them as some as I get them
