just another new guy
just got my salvaged 2000 maxima gxe off a buddy,
got it as a daily since my drive to work one way is 30 miles of state routes and back country roads
not really a "newb" currently driving a mildly hot rodded up 92 dakota with a magnum 318
and my toy truck is a 97 dakota lays frame on air.
hopefully i'll learn some things here and maybe even fix up the Max here and there, biggest issues right now have to do with some CEL codes, evap. something and O2 sensor circuit, that'll be dealt with, the other thing is this is a 249,600 mile Ohio car, theres a couple rust spots.. especially around the holes, so bodywork is in my future as well.

Welcome to the org.
Check the "stickies" at the beginning of the 5th gen section. There is a wealth of information there. Learning how to search will also be a big help for you.
Since you have a snowbelt car, check the crossmember under the radiator for rust. It is a problem area.
You can download a FSM (Factory Service Manual) from here:
http://boredmder.com/FSMs/Nissan/Maxima/
Having a 2000, there are 2 manuals listed - a 2000 and a 2000.5. Which one you need to download is based on the car's VIN. Look at the last 8 digits of the VIN. If those last 8 start with YT0 12237 or YT2 11681 or YT5 27430 or YT7 40492 or higher, you want the 2000.5 manual.
Using the manual, The section titled FWD.pdf is the index of the different sections or chapters of the manual. The section titled IDX.pdf is an alphabetical index for the entire manual.
CEL codes for EVAP and O2 can be found in the EC.pdf section. Each section also has an index and the CEL code Pxxxx numbers are in the section index.
Welcome and enjoy.

Thanks, ill be looking into those, I think a good tune up may actually clear them up, cars been sitting for the last 4 months. And it runs like its got dirty plugs.
The crossmember had been replaced with a healthy bit of angle iron before I got the car, presumably after the first front end collision,
