Stage 1: Clearing 2002 Tail lights(pics}

Heres a few pics of a stock 2000 GXE tail light. I used a dremel to cut out the 1/2 clear 1/2 red refelector. Once I buy another 2000 GXE tail light and dremel out the clear reflecor I will do stage 2 .

Stage 2 will be removing and taking apart my 2002 tail lights and inserting my dremeled/sanded 1/2 clear tails. I will also have to sand down my 1/2 clear tail light peice so it will fit properly into the 2002 housing.

Heres 2 pics of what I just did, enjoy

To the right is the 1/2 clear piece I will be inserting in my 2002 tails.

why didn't you just buy 2000-2001 SE taillights?? aren't they the perfect match?

You don't understand what I am doing apperently. As seen above I, I cut out the 1/2 clear 1/2 red piece of a 2000 GXE tail light. Now the 2002 tail lights are 1/2 orange 1/2 red. Also the 2002 tail lights are 3D, the 1/2 red 1/2 orange piece is a plate that is indintical in shape to the one I cut out of the 2000 GXE light. Now as soon as I get another 2000 GXE tail light I plan on removing my 2002 tail lights and then inserting the 1/2 clear 1/2red piece into them. By doing this I will still have the clear 2002 tail lights but now they will have 1/2 red 1/2 clear pieces in them rather then 1/2 orange pieces. Do oyu understand what I mean now? In a sec I will grab a pic GTR rider photo shoped for me a while ago, this pic is what the finished product will look like. BTW this in the only way to clear out thew orange in the 02 tails.

Here is a pic of how my tail lights look now.

Heres a photoshoped pic{courtesy of GTR Rider} of what the finished product will look like. Of course it will look a little better because this is just a photo shoped pic.

Are you testing out your work on the GXE tail? Don't go through all that work, just paint them like I did. The 2k2 tails will look much better when you clear out the orange lens.

I am not testing anything out on the GXE tail lights. I AM removing the 1/2 clear 1/2 red piece so that I can replace the 1/2 orange 2002 piece in hte TAILS!!

Does anyone understand what I am doing? It's really not the complicated..

Sorry man, I didn't understand what you were saying. I gotcha now. How are you going to attach it? Krazy glue or some kind of bonding material?

Hes cutting the circle out of the GXE and putting it into his 2k2 Rear lights.. replacing the circle.

How much did you spent on that tail? I can't believe you actually spent money to buy the whole GXE tail to clear out that thing. Good job! Looks really nice too!

While you are at it, clear the bumpers will ya?

The 2002 tails 1/2 red 1/2 orange piece is just a plate{which pops right out} this is the same demensions as the piece{AKA plate} I cut out of the GXE tails. I will have to remove my 02 tails and take them apart{just like I did to my headlights}, once the lights are apart I will pop out the 1/2 orange 1/2 red piece and then pop in my 1/2 clear 1/2 red piece into them. You would have to really know how the 02 tails are put together to really understand. There will be no glue involved, it will be a very clean precise job that will look 100% factory when completed.

As soon as I get another 2000-2001 GXE/GLE tail light{SE would work too} I will finish this process. I could to one of my 02 tail light's right now but I want to wait and do them both together so they are not all miss matched.

That's a great idea! The half red/half clear will look awesome with the chrome surroundings By the way, did you have to buy brand new 2000 GXE tail lights? be careful not to mess up dude!

HAHA, clear bumper lights are on order, they should be in any day. I bought two 2000 GXE tail lights from Paul on maxima.org a few months back{in preperation for this job}, I screwed up the first one and put a huge gash in my hand . I got a dremel for Xmass so now I was able to do my remaining GXE tail light properly. All that aside, I paid something like $90 for the pair of tails, tomarrow I am going to buy another tail from a junkyard for $50. So with the screw up $140ish was spent. As you can see I really do not like orange, LOL!

A little tip when taking off the tail lights (if you don't know it already) use a hair dryer and heat up the sealant around the edges of the tail lights from inside the trunk. It helped me a great deal, if you don't do that the thing will not budge. Heating it up will just loosen the sealant so then you can just pull it out (after removing the four nuts and wire harness)

I think I actually paid $60 shipped for them the more I think about it. I made the offer so if I got ripped off I did it to myself . BTW I removed tail lights on my 95 max{and took em apart} but never my 02, thanks for the hair drier tip .

FYI, Emax's land was used to film the movie Friday The 13th. They paid him to use the land, that's how he got the money to move from one car to another.

You took apart the 95 max taillights? You're not holding out on a little secret on how to get rid of the orange in there, are you? I hope you are...I hate my stock 95 tails...

Hmm, pics sho0w up fine for me, amybe your connection is slow and you did not wait long enough for the pics to come up? Just a idea.

The rest of you guys can see the pics right?

guitaraus, I don't keep secrets about what I do to my car like some others do. I took the lights apart just to see if I could figure anything out, it's completly impossible to clear 95-96 lights out.

emax: have you thought about going all red for the circle. You already have the clear around the circle part, maybe it would look more skyline-like with a full red circle?

I want to buy '02 tails and clear them out like you are doing, and put them on my '01. How difficult is it to cut out the circle of the old taillights perfectly? So did you cut out the circle on the OUTSIDE of the old lights and are going to pop the inside out of the '02 lights and put the circle on the INSIDE of the '02 lights?

That is correct. Cutting out the piece is not that hard if you have the right tool{dremel}.
