I have a question about car registration renewal. My registration is due to expire very soon...like in 2 days. Busy schedule just kept me from renewing it. So, I'm gonna have to renew it tomorrow.

What I'm wondering is, I've been meaning to get personalized plates. If I apply for personalized plates, is that the same as renewing the registration? Will the new plates come with a new registration card/sticker, etc..? Or Do I need to renew first, then personalized and pay for that separate? I'm just trying to avoid having to pay twice for what might be the samething.

I'm in Illinois btw.

PS: I'm planning on renewing online and printing out the invoice for my records in case I get pulled over until new sticker comes. Also planning to do the same for personalized plates, the one I want to get is available.

 

I think that you should go to the Illinois Secretary of State's office and ask them. They're the ones that issue the licenses.
