Slightly off-topic, but dang! That's cheap for a sports car of this caliber

My thoughts on the new Z and Skyline
What and the hell is Nissan doing to these cars! I have never seen something as butt ugly as when Pontiac brought out Aztec. Looks like they couldn't decide where to stop the headlights, slapped on some metal to make the fenders look wider, rounded and snubbed the rear end, and put on some god awful looking door handles. For $26,000 for the base model you are already getting ripped off for such a ugly a$$ car. Don't even get me started on the Skyline- trying to make it more luxurious like a BMW or MB? Nissan should get back to their roots and stop trying to be something that they are not. Man what are they thinking? Might not have such a hard time when deciding to get another car, I'll just go for some kick a$$ older TT Z's, Skyline's, Impreza WRX's, or TT Supra's. Save money on a car that won't depreciate as soon as I take ownership and I'll have money left over to modify it. At least they had STYLE and performance.
Just had to rant and throw my .02 in about this.

Ugly? Man that car is beautiful. I think most people find the car a looker. They might have took design cues from others but they got the overall look right and best of all, they stole Porshe performance. Its lighter and has waaaay better coefficient of drag than either the Max and Alty (not to mention 280 hp!). Step aside Max, there is a new king at Nissan

I think maybe the Z is the car every single person on this board has wanted in some fashion. Think about it, unless you constantly carry 3 other passengers, at this point, even at 22k or whatever, why bother with a 6-spd Maxima? It's always been the 255 hp thing as far as I know. Here comes a real sports car that supposedly can be had at 27k, and 36k tops. That leaves possiblilities in-between.
I showed the link to several in my office. A couple of guys were ho-hum. So yes, the German camp still looks at it as a Japanese car with styling that can be taken or left. There will always be some that want to pay more for the snob factor and don't care about value. I personally like the philosophy, 50k performance for under 30k. It got me and another guy talking about Porsches, he restored them and I drove one for a summer. So at least for 2 guys the new Z made us think about sports cars, and I think that is the effect Nissan wants. As always, no need to be the first on the block. Let people pre-order, the price is sure to be jacked. After a year, I hope these things will be available for all!!

I love the 350Z. I'm thinking about getting this car as my next one, but like Frank said, maybe a year after the car's out so that the prices drop.
Styling-wise, I think the car is awesome. I love the side profile with the peaky roofline. I love the rear taillights. I love the muscular beltline. I think the interior is great, too. The entire car has a retro feel but with no explicit retro styling cues. You know it's a Z but it's thoroughly modern. Those of you who think the car is a ripoff design from a Porsche probably think or would have thought the same about the original 240Z. Folks claimed the same thing back then (Porsche ripoff, Ferarri ripoff, etc).
From a performance perspective, this car is a knockout. Carbon fiber driveshaft, all aluminum multi-link suspension, 280+ HP. It would be "nice" to have even more HP but I think the power rating is perfect for the car as an all-around performer. More power (like TT's) would give the car a dragster feel. Assuming the car weighs around 3150 lbs (the figure I've seen) and has 280 HP or better, the car will certainly do the 1/4 mile in under 14 sec and 0-60 in under 6. That's pretty damn good.

did u guys see the interior yet??? it's.... umm.... weird...
i think it's a lot of car for the money, for those looking at an attractive quick little car, this is a lot compared to the competition which is all priced higher... if i was looking for a new 2 door sports car, i would consider this thing.

Ofcourse they could develop a car that has TURBO under the hood, but they seem to hate the idea of forced induction. I personaly will not buy another N/A car. I spent over $1000 to increase my hp by 20-30, and my friend slaps a chip for $300 on his Passat, which is by the way a four cylinder and he gets a bump of 50hp. He also has more tourqe than I do, which means that if he buys a $300 downpipe for that car he will probably smoke me. That is ofcourse for those that are into moding their cars.

I like it, but like anything new (music, car styling, wife after kid) you need a moment to take it in and digest it to start to appreciate it for what it is now. Change can be painful.... I think nissan has ballz to restyle(is that a word) their whole line of cars.
I give em a B+

I can't believe some of you guys are bashing the new 350Z and here you are driving around in a friggin Maxima. I mean, even the new 2002 Maximas don't even have the power to weight ratio of the 350Z (looks like the Z will be 50-100 lbs lighter and have another 30HP or so), yet some of you think the Z is slow. The Maxima stock handles like a pig, heavily modified handles okay at best, and here the Z has a top notch suspension so it should be a fantastic handler, a real canyon carver. Looks like it has really good brakes on the base car plus a fantastic Brembo upgrade from the factory on the track model. Styling is subjective, but the looks of this car are already admired but lots of people. All for under $27, not much more than (if at all) more than a 2002 Maxima.
How you guys get your heads that far up into your own a$$ is beyond me.
