How @ Get Better Gas Mileage?

Lately my mpg has been very low. What are somethings I could do to improve this? I have a 97 Max GLE. Would I need a new fuel filter? Thanks in advance.

When was your last tune up?

Some items to consider:
1) Dirty air filter
2) Worn spark plugs
3) Low tire pressure
4) Gas - Are you using the correct octain rating?
5) Cold weather - generally you use a bit more gas in cold weather.

clogged fuel filter, clogged PCV valve, clogged fuel injector, hole in exhaust pipes, bad o2 sensor, bad fuel temp sensor, bad coolant temp sensor, bad fuel dampener, bad fuel pressure regulator, etc etc

Thanks for the advice guys. Well I am at 81,00 miles on my car. I may need to change out the air filter. I will also ease off the accelerator.

Another thing. Since it's winter time, the gas stations switched to that MTBE oxygenated gas crap. So, mileage goes down with that stuff, too. EPA's got to get its act together and remove it once and for all.

I filled up last night and now I going for my best mpg to see if driving like a normal person will greatly increase the mileage. I thought about it and realized that at every light I stop at it's WOT when the green light drops, whether its just me or 2 other cars at the light.

So for one full tank I'm going to TRY and drive like a granny and see the difference. I'm not sure if I'll be able to do it or not. With my luck, some rice boy will be trying to race me and I'm not sure I will be able to resist even in the name of science, oh but wait, its only rice. That would only be 1/2 throttle anyway!

I drove like a granny in my '91. I went from ~18mpg to around 22mpg (city driving) On the highway, I went from ~22mpg to ~30mpg. Worth it, but annoying to drive slow!
