Rio Car Player for Maxima

Rio Car Player for Maxima
Does anyone have one in their Maxima? I just ordered one from Rio. They are a lot cheaper than they used to be and very customizable if you know Linux. Here's the link. If you are interested in them, hurry up and order them because they are disappearing quick. They are out of production because Rio decided not pursue car audio anymore.

What I'm gonna do is hook it up to the Auxilary port of my Pioneer headunit and do it like that. The unit doesn't have a built in amp. You could just use the mp3 player and wire it to an amp that powers all of the internal speakers and subs. But then you'd need the FM adapter for it if you wanted that.

I bought a Empeg(RioCar) player about two weeks ago. I am in the process of replacing everything, thanks to the stupid Bose powered speaker setup. So far so good. I will post some pics when it is done, hopefully tomorrow.
I have been playing with it, and it is awesome. I have over 600 of my CD's encoded, so I won't be missing the CD player functionality. I will miss the tuner, but my antena is broke anyway, so screw it.
As for support, there is a very active user group, so I am not too worried about support. Check out This Forum for more info.

Cool, I'd like to see those pics, I have the Bose system too. I was gonna see about setting the wires on the Bose speakers as inputs to the players and still using the individual amps with the Bose speakers. Then I would add some amps. Were you able to get a hold of one of those FM receivers? I wasn't. I sure would like to get ahold of one.

yeh, true. but it's just a small Linux box with hard drives and open source, so if you're decent with computers a little you can tweak it and/or fix it.

but dude a RioCar is sooooooooooo much sweeter than a unit that needs CD's. I mean, why would you ever want an MP3 Cd unit when you could have a rio?? They're so cheap right now, I don't know why anyone in the market would choose a CD unit over an MP3 unit with heaps of storage.

yes
yes i do.. love it. simple, nice, elegant... looks good.. etc. just wish I hadn't overpaid by like $1500
people miss that the WHOLE POINT of a REAL MP3 unit is so you DONT HAVE TO USE cd's
you have random access, playlists, etc
putting MP3's on a CD is like recording your CD's onto cassettes, no it's actually even MORE pointless

I know, I loved the idea of having my whole collection in my car without having to swap CDs. Plus I love the fact that I can take it out and hook it up to my stereo and stuff. I've been watching this thing for years and have always wanted one, just didn't want to pay the $1400 price tag for one. That's why I'm glad they finally dropped the price. And since the player is practically open source, updates are always going to be out for it. Mine should arrive Monday, I can't wait. I just wish I could find the radio tuner somewhere, people are raising the prices on those to $250 on eBay because they are out of stock.
