Maxima vs. Diamante help me decide

Alright here is the situation, right now i have a 93 gxe with 140,000 miles on it i love it, its fun to drive and looks good but it does have 140,000 miles on it and the original tranny, its time to get something else to drive. I have two options that i can get good buys. My mom is about to sell her 92 mitsubishi diamante its black and in excellent condition with 45,000 miles on it. I really love the looks of this car and like driving it as well. My other option is my grandparents are selling their maxima they decided they only need one car and are going to keep their A6. Their maxima is a white 95 gle. its a pretty stripped down model, automatic with only 15,000 miles on it. Ok it seems like a pretty simple decision im sure to most but for some reason im unable to decide which would be better. The only problem i really see with the maxima is to me this particular max has always looked ugly, im not a fan of white and the interior is that blueish gray color with a pattern and it only had hubcaps. So i think that if i bought wheels for it and tinted the windows the the interior was not so visible from outside the look would greatly improve. just to let you know im more in to comfort and looks than power. Im just looking for everyones opinion (i know what it is going to be) but i need some convincing and if anyone has a reason that the mitsu woulb be better let me know.

what would i expect to pay for some nice 4th gen wheels?

and can you swap the grille from a 95 with one from a 98 or 99? if so how much would that typically run a guy.

It all depends on what you want. The easiest to pick up would be 16's from an SE. Look in the parts for sale forum.

Stripped down? The GLE comes with everything - Leather, climate control, power seats, Bose...what else do you need! I say take the Maxima in a hearbeat, the Mitsubishi is not a bad car at all, but a 3-year older Mitsubishi is going to have a lot more problems than a '95 Maxima.

Maxima vs Diamonte

I am pretty sure the GLE does not come with a spoiler. To me the spoiler really dresses up the rear section.Add one
Another option would be to get it painted to a color you like. How about the real deap blue? They used to call it candy apple blue, it should go with the interior. If the price is really right, tell the bank a price slightly higher than purchase price and then you've got money for the paint and spoiler.
Max. all the way.

Compare the engine and supply of aftermarket parts, and this is a no brainer. Go with the Maxima. Plus, you can always get a new paint job.

The Diamante will let you down

The Diamante is a dog off the line and weighs around 3400 lbs and most likely will eventually burn oil. The do have good top end though. Get the Max

Sound like you already are set on the Maxima. I think most people around here, including me, think it's the way to go. Very low mileage and you know it'll run for many years without major problems. You also know that the previous owners didn't abuse it ( I hope ).

The Diamante is a nice car. By itself, even with 45,000 miles, I don't think it's a bad deal. But, when considering it against a Max, well I think the Max wins. Max has everything going for it plus the HP.

Good luck...

Whoa!!!!!!!!! Is it pearl white?? Get out the orbital buffer and when the sun is out .... arf arf arf! Pearl white is a greaaat color! Pain in the *** to touch up though.

Bluish gray? Hmmm .... I need to look at my Max tomorrow .... I thought the closest color matching your description was charcoal gray ... no?

Steelies for wheelies .... make em good winter tires (if you have winters). You could get new rims. I'm *hopefully* getting my Altima 17s soon!!! Can't wait.

Your mind's decided .... Maxima it is! But honestly, the color's actally great. And you're going to tint too ... should be sweet.

I'm gonna be tinting my 95 SE pearl white next month, as soon as Ziebart has the tint special. YAY!!!!

Oh yeah .. another thing, good night.

I like the Diamantes interior...my uncle had one from like 94, it didn't feel slow and he was able to bring it to 0 from 120 pretty damn fast (I thougth I was gonna die at that traffic light)...still I'd say the Max would be the way to go.

The Diamante has serious engine and other mechanical problems. Consumer reports gave the engine alone the lowest reliability rating, the black dot.

buy the maxima, put a leather kit inside to fix the interior you don't like and then get some SE rims (because if you got for some 17s then you'll get the 4x4 look).
