Project Turbo Update

ok, so here goes my bank account, I mean project.

Haltech is pretty much complete. Cranked the car to make sure all readings are correct. It was all GO. All the sensors were sending info to the Laptop.

Battery relocation is 98% done. Gotta run power to an exterior flip switch ( in case like the car flips it can be turned off from the out side) then run one power line to the ignition to shutt car off.

MSD DIS4 complete, well except for the power line coming from switch.
I was able to get the 6 coils from the car versus running a Gran Nationol or GTP coilpack. I don't how he got that to work.

Turbo piping should be done this week. Piping fom IC to throtle is done he just has to weld the 40mm TIAL (not tile, Imma Turbo newbie sorry) Wastegate. The downpipe is partially done but we're still deciding how low to put the Turbo.

Gotta get Gauge pods by this week. I got the EGT and Boos gauge for now then I'll Fuel Pressure Gauge.

I'll take some pix when we get some interesting shots. The wiring look boring so I didn't take any pix.

Clutch comes in Friday.

Did I mention this was expensive? Uh the 2-3K kit would be awsome if it can be pulled off for that amount. I'm about 6K with this clutch.

Hey great news. Project is chugging along!

Haltech. Wow very nice. Probably one of the first(if not the first) 4-gen+ to run a standalone engine management. Can I ask if you used all the stock Nissan sensors? Or did you have to swap out some to the Haltech compatible units??

I'll be too scared to break anything the first two months. I probably won't boost much at first. I'll play with the blowoff valve for a while... Pfstt Pfsstt. hee hee. I'm all giddy just thinking about it.

We used the O2 sensors, MAP, I can't think if there were others, I'll look tonight. Oh we couldn't use the IAC so I think we're gonna use a solenoid to control idle. I'll ask him tonight.

You should be fine running on 6-8 psi. The BOV on a turbo Max sounds much nicer than on a SC Max. Good luck and have lots of fun going ppppsstttt ppppsssttt down the freeway.

What part of $6k is not believable.

Good work is NOT cheap.

Yea my account has the all over it. But none of it is on credit and I just bought the last two major part of the project so now I can sit back and enjoy. That's why I'm going to be very very carefull not to break any thing just yet.

Indeed. If you wanna play you gotta pay.

Anyways, i cant wait for pics! Maybe this will give some design ideas for guys who can build a kit for us.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Project Turbo Update

Yep. I'm finding that out the hard way.

Note: Yeah it should help w/ kit ideas but just because one is done, doesn't mean it's easy to convert that custom set-up to a kit form. Custom and kits are too different animnals. The place that's doing my turbo rebuild has a site. They have a list of custom turbo projects. But they clearly say, "each car is different, even though we have done one car, doesn't mean there is a kit for it." "Each car(even if it's the same model/year etc), is treated like an individual, thus we would need your car in the shop for fitment." "No ifs, ands and buts about it."

True, true. my setup as it is might not be the most efficient setup either. Tuning in my opinion is the hardest part and we haven't even got there yet. That will be a story on its own. i think anyone with mechanical skills and install a turbo even engine management ( if patient enough to read) but tuning is the key to avoiding problems. At least that's what think. That's why I went with engine management to tell the ecu what to do rather than trying to trick it, to do what you need. But hey that's my .02 i hope it works.

Any info

on the Vortech BOV? I got this from a kid brand new. How does it sound? Does it work pretty good? It seems as if you can adjust it and it looks pretty big.

Yea

It looks pretty cool but I didn't know if that was an attempt to sell a cheap BOV ( I'm not saying it's cheap but I know nothing about it )
But I'm going to look for it on the web and see if I find any info on it.

The HKS or GReddy BOV should sound nice on your car. There was a post in the General Forum a while back that had some sound files of BOV's.
