2015 Nissan Maxima Teased Ahead of Concept's Debut: 2014 Detroit Auto Show

Just the Facts:
•Nissan will introduce a sporty coupe-like sedan concept at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show that will be a thinly veiled version of the redesigned 2015 Nissan Maxima.
•Sketches of the upcoming concept were briefly shown to an international group of journalists invited to a Nissan event in California.
•The concept's design is described by Nissan as "energetic and modern with a floating roof."

IRVINE, California — Nissan will introduce a sporty coupe-like sedan concept at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show that will be a thinly veiled version of the redesigned 2015 Nissan Maxima.

Sketches of the upcoming concept were briefly shown to an international group of journalists invited to a Nissan event in California. The name of the concept was not released, but more information is expected later this week.

Speaking to journalists, Nissan's global design chief Shiro Nakamura described the concept's design as "energetic and modern with a floating roof. It is very coupe-like but it still has lots of room on the inside. I think it is a nice proportion with a very strong design intention."

Nakamura said the concept also shows Nissan's future design direction.

Nakamura would not confirm that the 2015 Maxima will be based on the concept. However, industry sources confirmed the concept's intent.

Asked if the concept signals Nissan's intention to create a family of four-door sedans that look like coupes, Nakamura told Edmunds "not all sedans because some customers want to have a roomier inside. However, there are people who want to stick with a sedan but at the same time they want to have a sporty look."

The current version of the Maxima has been on sale since 2008.

Edmunds says: Nissan has created quite a buzz with this intriguing take on the upcoming Maxima.

That concept looks great! It's a great jump from the 7th gen design, Definitely does show that Sporty sedan look, I look forward to it if they do produce it!

It's nice to see where they're actually going with this:

The altima will stay practical and the the max gets all sporty, like the Mercedes S and E class verses the CLS class with the chopped roof. Dodge Charger also comes to mind too.

It has a GTR-ish look from the windshield/side windows/roof slope.

I know I'm way out of line in doing this but can I ask for a 6 Speed transmission? PLEASE! Concept looks wicked, Juke-ish even. But me and everyone else I'm sure would like to see the return of a manual transmission. (I'm not sure that will ever happen)

I like it so far. It is just a concept so we'll see what the reality is...but it might be time to put a Maxima back in the garage...

I'm hoping they go direct injection raising the HP to 300 and raising the MPG by 10-12%. Also, include the new 30% reduced friction CVT. Please reduce weight like in the Altima with high strength steel.

Outlandish body style, hardly functional, all for show. I miss the conservative days.

I will remain in doubt with the concept til the final design into production to see the car in person, then I'll form my own opinion.

Me likey! Now we'll just have to see how much power they give it and what technology they add. Personally, I'd like to see at least 320HP, heated and cooled front seats, heated rear seats, dedicated rear HVAC controls, power folding mirrors, and that bird's eye view camera system... Just to name a few.

I'm not too enthused with the look. It is too Japanese science fiction anime for me.

Something tells me it won't even be on the D-Platform anymore... Maybe they're developing an all new sedan platform because the only other probable platform Nissan has is the FM, which is 99% unlikely because of RWD. The suspense is real....

2015 Nissan Maxima is made with 3.5 L with V6 engine system. The engine system will be combined with 6-speed manual transmission that will produce at least 325 HP and also 298 lb ft. This new sedan will be offered with fuel economy system. It is front engine and front drive vehicle type. When you drive this car you can reach your first 60 mph only with 5.5 seconds.

I hope I can buy 2015 nissan maxima

souce : future cars models

What do you guys think of adjustable suspension as an option thinking back to the 6th gen days of the SE/SL too soft too firm argument. You have us guys who like sport then you have some from the other crowd who may want a Maxima.

this might be a viable alternative.

Would they really bring back manual transmission after they got rid of it in their entire line up for CVT?

They should just kill off the Maxima and make the Altima a RWD sedan with a V8. End of story.

The Maxima has gotten less "exciting" with each generation.

LOL Ok. 7th Gens are a dime a dozen just like Dodge Chargers. Everyone has them.

Nissan has lost its way with the Maxima. I remember when the 3rd Gen came out, it was badass. When the 4th Gen came out, the car mags raved about them and even police departments upgraded their cars because they couldn't keep up with them.

Nissan tried to get the 4dsc soul back with the 5th and they were impressive but everything after that was geared towards an older laid back crowd. Not to mention the 6th and 7th gens are down right ugly. I know some folks will be butthurt with my comments but it's just my opinion and that's why when it was time to buy a new car, it wasn't going to be another Maxima.

2008 Pontiac G8 man thanks for keeping it 100 being a 6th gen owner people always approach me and say I like this bodystyle of the Maxima the new ones aren't the same ive heard that more times than I can count. Being a 6th gen owner I definetly dont expect everyone to love it but I respect everyone's opinion. The 3rd gen was the best out of all of them it felt the most solid in the 19 years we owned it. Seem like things dropped drastically for the Maxima with the 7th dont get me wrong very nice cars but feels like something is missing.
