george__ I hear you George this car has to be better than the current generation in every way Nissan's been on a bit of the low side the last couple of years in terms of quality/reliability and such. The 8th gen Maxima has to be above average its customers wont settle for anything less.

It might be the picture, but I still think my 2014 Maxima is better looking! Nissan really should make the next generation maxima's RWD and with no CVT transmission... I don't know if they're just oblivious to what people want out of the Maxima but hopefully one day they will full fill some of these wants.

Over the past few months I have observed Nissan, the Freeflow, Nismo IDX, nismo overall, so I see pics of the Q50 Eau rouge concept; and soon we will see this possible Nissan maxima. Would it be too much too have a new maxima fulfilling its 4 door sports car. First keep the usual 2 or three models and add a true 4DSC similar to the Q50 Eau Rouge model, sporting the usual upgrades on performance, and exclusive model cues.
Sorry no pics, but look at the Q50 Eau Rouge concept compared to the base model. Look at a the Freeflow , and it's Nismo IDX.
If they follow their own concepts; we may have a Maxima for everyone's taste.

river57 Here's the only problem personally I like the Q50 alot I wanted one as a matter of fact but it hasn't got great reviews from consumers report got one of the lowest ratings among new vehicles so the 8th gen if based off the Q50's gonna have to be a better car in everyway.

I agree, I do not want a Q50, just look at the concept Q50 Eau Rouge, hopefully NISSAN applies that to a Maxima for everyone's taste.

I haven't owned my Max for long, but I'm actually kinda surprised some people don't like the 7th gen's To each their own, and I respect everyone's opinions.
I started liking the Maxima when I was old enough to start thinking about driving a car, back in '97-99. I've like every iteration aside from the 6th gen, and I absolutely love the 7th gen. It rides super smooth, turns whichever way I point it, and my leather seats are heaven on my back! And it's a cool feeling knowing that I can smoke a lot of cars on the highway!
Coming from an I-4 Camry SE, the difference is like night and day....
I have to echo what other's have said about the Altima vs. the Max. After test driving a '14 SL V-6, I felt like it, while very quick, was missing that intagible "I'm driving a nice car" feeling. It's definitely a decent car, and if not for a little bit I would've bought one over my Camry. But no one's gonna look twice at an Altima, but I get looks in my Max all the time, and it's bone-stock lol!

Oh and more to the point of this thread...
I think the concept looks pretty cool....of course its a radical design, but most concepts are. I'm not the biggest fan of that U-shaped metal bar in the grill, but I think if Nissan sticks to those design cues, they may have another winner on their hands.
I think I'd prefer AWD over RWD for the Maxima, especially living up north. I'm undecided on a V8, I think the VQ35 is nice, and I know they can boost the output higher to like 340 or something. The Maxima is quick enough, not sure how much MORE power and speed you need, at least for everyday driving. I live in Md, and my fellow DC/VA/MD residents know how bad traffic is here...
It great that it will be out as a 2016 model...I'll be ready to trade in the Max by then lol. This time around, I'm going to get the Sport plus tech and prem packages!

Either way, I'm sure I'll like whatever they come up with. I'm not the biggest fan of how the Altima lately has been getting the newer tech upgrades and not the Maxima, but hopefully Nissan will rectify that with the 8th.

I have to say the new Rogue is a step in the right direction for Nissan as their designs have lacked.
Not a fan of this Coupe Sedan crap, but the Altima is currently bigger than the Maxima, so they have to make the Maxima fit somewhere.

After Gen 5.5, Maxima became a "olds person luxury sedan" and the Altima 3.5 took the spot of fast / sporty mid size sedan with optional luxury features.
Gen 8 is taking the Gen 7 concept too far imo. It just looks too different? The mutt from sports car and mid size sedan night out ><

I don't know why all these people are talking about rwd for the maxima lol... that's reserved for the z and infiniti so get that outta your head... awd is more of a possibility but fwd really isn't that bad unless you wanna race all day... I personally like the renderings and im cool with it being fwd again but awd would be nice... I wouldn't mind a different trans though this is my 3rd Nissan with a cvt... and pretty much every article about the new max is 100% guesses... saying the interior of the new will be the same as the 7th gen... why would that happen? lol

6-12mos probably
I'd expect smaller wheels(& arches) and other minor changes.
It's brutally gorgeous, the only thing I don't like is the chrome U that has become nissan's signature grill but a little plasti-dip can fix that.
