Page 89!

Well basically to sum it up, the Altima did 66mph in the salom, and .83g. The Maxima did .80g at 68mph.

But, the funny thing is in there 1/4 tests, the Altima did 14.9 at 95.5 mph and the Max did 15.0 at 95.6 mph! What the?!

Okay, not done yet...

The Maxima dynoed at 218 hp and 230 tq, the Altima dynoed at 200 hp and 211 TQ...obviously the maxima does make more power. This is proof. But the 1/4 something is up there....

The graph shows that the power dies after 6k badly....

At the end they basically said that looks like the Maxima is the loser, and it might be headed to a end of production soon. I hope not!

2k2 stock autos have been getting mid 14s, and we all know the 6 sp. can do better--so my conclusion is that they don't know how to drive and i wouldn't put any stock (no pun intended) in what they have to say about the max or the altima or any other vehicle's performance times for that matter--thanks for the info though, it's about time the new max got some coverage, even if it's biased and untrue

Wait till Dave B. rushes in to assure us that they both have the same amount of power.

i guess i shouldn't be surprised at the times the mag got, i WOULD be surprised if a magazine (any magazine) actually got 'em right

serious question though: what's the deal with their drivers, do they seriously not know how to run a 1/4 or is there some other reason they have the inability or lack of desire to get the car (any car)running a 1/4 with at least the car's average time (they don't necessarily need to have the best time---> (14.44 for a stock 2k2 auto)) just something close to what the owners are actually getting?????? magazines suck, thank God for the .org

SCC has never been good at getting decent 1/4 mile & 0-60 times.

He seems to be a good guy from what I gathered, but he seems to come up on the wrong side of a lot of arguements. This was one of the big ones. He dang near put money on the line that they had the same power and torque he was so confident.

They must have done this at 75-80 Dragway... uphill. LOL. With very little seat time in my brand new Maxima I ran 14.7. They must have awful drivers. This does prove they are both pretty close though. It comes down to the better driver.

I find it funny how they dynoed way more power than anyone else has with a 6 speed. The 6 speed dyno numbers on this site are consistent with the Altima dyno numbers as tested by SCC. For some reason the SCC Maxima put down more power than the modified 6 speeds at this site, yet the Altima dyno in SCC is right on par for the dynoed Altima over at Altimas.net. I think the 1/4 mile clearly shows that the Altima and Maxima are just a drivers race. I've been saying this all along and I'll stand by that statement. Seeing that this is a Maxima site, the group for the most part believes the Maxima is the faster car. I'm a hardcore Maxima owner myself, however I seem to understand automotive performance/drag racing concepts a little better than many people (not trying to be arrogant in any way) in here and I saw early on that the Altima was going to be right on the heels if not right next to the Maxima in the straightline. So far, the data has not proved me wrong.

The good news is that the new Maxima is the fastest Maxima yet. The sad news is that SCC was only able to get 14.9-15.0 out of these cars. SCC aren't bad drivers, they're not the best, but their not bad. I think that for the most part, most people in here will get these kind of numbers with their Maximas/Altimas. I'm still torn between a 2002 Maxima/Altima/WRX.

I don't put much into a SCC article about performance.

Without much experience with our 97 SE, I ran a 14.7 stock, I have driven the 02 and know its good for at least a low 14. I think I could eek a 13.9 out of it, but who knows.

With those dyno numbers the Maxima should be making noticably better times than the Altima, but I guess they can't drive.

Give me both cars and a drag strip and I'll show you what each car is capable of! Nissan, are you listening!?

I have little faith in Super Street or SCC. I remember when SS tried to say the Type R was about just as quick as the 00 Mustang GT 5 speed. A properly driven GT will make quick work of a Type R in the 0-60 and 1/4 mile dept.

I am waiting to see what the big mags have to say. I am sure they will do better than 15.0 in the 1/4. Thats just pathetic!
