Where To Buy The Escort 8500?

I'm thinking of purchacing the Escort 8500 now. Where would be the best place to purchase one? Should I purchase it from their website or go to a store and buy it?

I don't want to start a p***ing contest, but the 8500 has been voted #1 by more polls, people, and mags than the V1 ever has. V1 advantage is only on a straight line, which in real world driving is not as likely as bends and hills, unless you live in the desert.

Instead of stating an opinion, please provide some facts. I think you have the two detectors confused. Passport won a FEW tests because Cincinnati donated money to some of the studies. Mike Valentine refused to. In turn they quoted the wrong specs on the size of the unit and the function of it's logic control.

Show us where you got your information.

Like I said, I don't want to get in a p***ing contest here about this, you like your V1 and that's cool. I like my 8500 and that's cool. If Mr. Valentine doesn't want to compete head to head with other radar detectors, that's probably a good business decision for him. All I know is that even if I pulled out specific examples where V1 was beaten by the 8500, are you gonna sell yours and buy an 8500? Probably not, so it's a mood point. It still really has nothing to do with the young man's question as to where to get an 8500.

Can't we all just get along?

Jamie.. i posted that thread link above for a specific reason.. if you had read it.. you would note that Shumax has V1 1.8 / 1.7 / and the 8500 ..

and he clearly states in his post that the 8500 out performs the 1.7 but not the 1.8 ...

read the link.. and you will understand..

Yup. Read that. The V1 v1.8 not only had the longest range forward and back, but also the widest range from left to right as well. Awesome.

Proud V1 1.8 owner here

By the way, if you call Valentine, you can ask them if they sell used or re-condiftioned units. Someone said they did for a litlle less. They don't advertise anywhere though. Make sure to ask for v1.8 as well!

why is it that no stores carry the Valentine One, but almost every car audio store has the 8500?

I had the 8500 and now I own the V1. I am sorry but the V1 works a hell of alot better, picks up much further and works over hills and turns much better than the Passport will ever. I thought the Passport was the best till I tried the V1....

Until you try the V1 shut up.

Yeah, save your money and don't get a ticket and an insurance increase. V1. Pay now or pay later. It's the best defense.

You know what, I have tried the V1 and since it was bigger, only a one button operates 5 different functions and the display did not give me any info I could use, I didn't like it. Detection range was outstanding and as a whole the unit is not that bad. But for that much money over the escort, I chose to look elsewhere. So Let me ask you now, how many 8500's have you owned? Probably none. Like I said in the very beginning, this is not a p***ing contest here. Someone had a question and somebody smarted off about the V1. Like I've stated in previous threads, we could debate the merits of this issue forever, but one thing is still going to win out-You're happy with yours and happy with mine.

P.S. It's real easy to tell people to shut up, when that's all you have to say, next time try and make a point and not insult people since you obviously don't know who you're talking to.

some people just need their detector to reach out and slap them in the face to realize police radar is being used ahead... behind the cop isn't going to be driving as fast as you so it won't really matter... except if he's entering the hwy an onramp... just be smart and you'll greatly reduce your chances of a ticket. no matter what detector is being used

The first sentence of his post: "I had the 8500 and now I own the V1."

Also, 3 of my friends have the V1 1.7, V1 1.8, and the 8500. I have used them all on many occasions and I think the 1.8 is the best, which it should for the price you pay over it. However, I will probably buy my friends 8500 for around $200 when he upgrades to a V1 1.8.

Like I said before, I owned a Pasport 8500 till I got the V1. The v1 wins period. You have not tried a V1 yet, so your remarks are useless.

Wow....I see that you guys get into the V1 / Passport debate too...

Well, there is NO WAY the Passport beats the V1. The only times the V1 has lost in ANY test was when there was obviously incorrect information (www.radartest.com, speedzones or whatever the *** it is).

At the local Car Audio shop, the guy sells Passports and Bel's. But guess what he uses? The V1, even though he can get the other 2 for practically nothing, he paid $405 for the V1 just like everybody else. If that doesn't tell you what's better, then nothing will...

JAIMECBR900...post links to the V1 getting it's *** kick by the others (no radartest.com or speedzones lab). Those 2 sites have been proven OVER AND OVER to be bull$hit on the other forums that I visit (LS1.com, corral, corvetteforum). It's just common knowledge...

Valentine addresses the guy behind those tests on his website. He offers up a challenge. Buy the passport and the V1, use them for a month and return the loser. He knows he's not gonna lose. If you didn't like your V1, then maybe it was operator error. Were the arrows and 1 simple button just too much for ya??

Did I mention that the V1 kicks the living $hit out of all other detectors?

No, I won't go buy an 8500 smarta$$. To be honest I own both. If you read into my history with Radar detectors on this site you would start to understand that I know a thing or two about them.

The REAL reason Mike D. Valentine doesn't donate money is due simply by the fact that he doesn't want to cause biased opinions. Do a search and read back on my 800+ mile road trip comparison b/t the 8500 and the V1. I kept both because they both work good. The V1 just works better because it has Directional Arrows and a much more advance Logic Control system. The 8500 works well, but is full of typical Cincinnati Microwave attempts to make something work for them. 5 years ago they were filing for bankruptcy. Now they own Beltronics and are hoping to dig out of it all. Mike's got em' by the nuts, son.

Read back a few posts. You can pick up one on EBAY. Just make sure its a version 1.8. Ask for the serial number, go to the V1 site and check it.

Good luck...

You know what? You morons must not know how to read, but you claim to "experts" on the subject, huh? If you would only read the thread and not be so ready to put out propaganda, I gave your holy V1 it's cudos. You have your opinion, and I have mine. It's that simple. It's not rocket science or medicine, it's only an opinion. You people act as if I had cursed out your mother or something. My entire point since the beginning when people got the feathers ruffled was very simple and direct- Do the research and make your own mind up. Not go out and buy something your buddies "think" is the next best thing to sliced bread. Bottom line once again for those who are a bit challenged is: I'm happy with mine, you should be happy with yours. Nothing you say, especially trying to insult me, is going to change my mind. If you would go back to the very beginning thread, what does it say? Does it ask anywhere about the V1? Does it ask the merits of this ****ing contest? It asked a simple question regarding where to get an 8500, I was just trying to help the person out. Everyone else chiming in beating on their chests about their opinion of me is all useless and non productive to the initial subject.
P.S. If you're ever in Atlanta, let me know and we can discuss our opinions face to face. I bet you wouldn't be as eager to get smart then. Let me know

Let me know
thanx for noting the real purpose of this thread. kudos!

hah damnit. i wanted to correct his spelling. nothing better than catching a mistake in the middle of someone's b!itch-out.

To JAIME-
dude, calm down. its threads like this that help us. we get everyone's opinion. it lets us make an edcuated decision when/if we decide to buy a radar detector or anything else. in this case, it may not be as much of an opinion as you think. its not an opinion when it comes to WHICH ONE CAN DETECT FROM FURTHER AWAY. according to shumax (who has owned and used all 3, v1.7, 8500, and v.18) his real-life test showed that in a real-life situation the V1.8 out performed the 8500. i personally own an 8500 so i am not arguing against you. but there is no need to flip out on anyone. people get into debates here all the time. 'altezzas' is our subject of choice. just state your opinion and read others' but dont attack anyone. i apologize for the people who may have attacked you. basically, just chill and have fun here.

I don't have any problems with that. But you know what? I was trying to be cool and polite to everyone, even when they had a difference in opinion. Read my threads from the beginning and notice that hostility has not gotten in the way until very recently because people in here have escalated to that point.
