I'm helping out a friend who wants a Max. We've found a pretty clean 93 GXE. One owner, fully loaded, all records, 110,000 miles - a tad high, but not too bad. Asking $7500. Here's my question. The engine has a rather excessively loud *tick, tick, tick* sound. Keep in mind, I'm a 4th gen guy and am fairly ignorant on the VD. I know that the ticking noise is to be expected to some degree, how much worry should we put into this? The car had a major service done last November, so it shouldn't need valve maintenance already. Any input?? thx

Unknown, I'll see the records for the first time tomorrow. 93's had a timing belt?? If so, I suppose its possible that its still running on the original.

welp....as the owner of a 3rd gen....

Can you hear the tick inside or next to car? or do you have to have the hood open. In most nissan engines you can hear the injectors working...going tic tic tic fast at idle. But a louder tap can be exhaust manifolds(broken studs) or some kind of head work. And...for 7500 that car better have leather, bose, etc. I paid 10,995 from a nissan dealer no less for my 93 GXE with a whoping 38K miles. 110 is like 3x as many miles and now 2 years older than when I bought mine. Sounds kinda high.

We'll see, that's "asking". She's dropped a 10 disc changer into it, nice tint job and a few other goodies. High KBB is $8,565. If it checks out and she'll go $6,750 or so, I'll prolly green light my buddy to go for it. As for the ticks, I haven't seen the car IRL yet - tomorrow afternoon.

Things to check.....

Window regulators
Exhaust Mainfold studs

Get the price as low as you can. Tint and CD changers are cheap. Also if the car has the Bose radio (option on GXE?), you know the problems with that......

Luck with the test drive.
