Which transmission cooler to buy?

I mostly hear about the Hayden 404 around here but there are many others out there. I surfed the net and found many. I called around at the local auto supply stores and they have a variety as well. So I was wondering, why do you guys go with Hayden? Should I as well? And, if yes, should I get the 404? Why? Is it not overkill?

" Heavy duty driving, Cars, trucks, class "C" motor homes
GVW to 22,000 lbs.
7 1/2" x 15 1/2" x 3/4" "

" Item #1404...Heavy Duty Towing, Pick-Up Trucks with up to 5,000 lbs. at tow. Class "C" motor homes, travel trailers to 24 ft. Gross Vehicle Weight to 22,000 lbs.

Item #1404....$46.00 "

Should I get the 401? 402? 403? Or even the 405?! I spoke to Don at Mobiletek and he was talking about the 404 and possibly the 405. Any advice will be much appreciated.

Thanks guys.

For the same money, you can get a B&M from Jegs.com. It is much better design. It is a stacked plate design that is more rugged than the fin and tude design of the Hayden. The B&M also has a self-regulating orifice so the fluid can by-pass the cooling fins when the fluid is cold. I've got the #130-70264, rated for 24,000GVW.

Also, they give you enough hose to do the job; with the Hayden you are going to have to buy more.

Thanks guys. Sorry Bill for not checking that first.

sinewave, on the jeg website, it lists the #130-70264's dims as: 11" x 6" x 1.5" and 24,000 GVW but on the .org, it says: 11 x 7.5 x 0.75" and 19,000 GVW. Which is correct.

Thanks lime. Why did you go with B&M?

Thanks again everyone.

Perma-cool is supposed to be pretty good too

Their design is supposedly better than Tube-fin or stacked plate

That looks like an oil cooler. That's different, right?

The tranny cooler prolongs the tranny fluid longer.

I am using a Hayens 403x cooler. I think its more then plenty for cooling.

They will both work. Since I live in New Orleans (9 months of summer), I opted for the biggest one that I could fit.

Again, that is clarified through this link which is available in the first one that was given.

http://bmracing.com/noflash/products...perCooler.html

The number on the jegs site is for a larger capacity one, which is usually not recommended, especially in colder climates......this is why sinewave could get a bigger capacity one, since he lives in the Big Easy. For most here, that isn't possible or recommended.

I don't think it would hurt to buy the larger B&M since it has a low temperature bypass.
