Spring Rates

Can someone explain to me what spring rates mean? What are the stock spring rates and how do they compare to aftermarket spring rates? Thanks!

I dont know what the stock or aftermarket springs rates are. But spring rate refers to the force re quired to compress the spring through a given distance. Automotive spring rates are commonly listed in pounds per inch. A 400 lb/in spring requires 400 pounds of force to compress 1 inch.

Easy.

That was easy. Can you adjust the spring rates on coilovers?

Well, yes and no. You can adjust them by replacing the springs easily, but you cant adjust the rate of the actual spring.
