Asking this on the maxima forums because there is a better source of knowledge here....hoping someone knows the answer to this.

I'm doing a 5 speed Manuel to 6 speed swap on my 02 altima. I know the shifter assembly needed is a 6 speed one (which I scored from a maxima). What I want to know is if I can use the same 5 speed shifter cables for the swap or if different cables are needed.

I have the maxima cables (from an 03) and the stock 02 altima 5 speed cables. Which should I use or does it matter?

Courtesy Parts lists 2 numbers.

One for:
2002-2003 2.5L 5-Spd M/T & 3.5L 5-Spd M/T

And another for:
2004-2006 2.5L 5-Spd M/T & 3.5L 5-Spd M/T
2005-2006 3.5L 6-Spd M/T

Seems like they could be similar.
