How is this possible?

I have a 1990 supra with a strait pipe, Dohc, and 16 inch rims with 245's in the rear , I used to have a 1993 maxima intake, and I used to have a 1991 240sx intkae, and my friend has a 1987 300zx intake & magnaflow. My other friend has a 1993 5 speed maxima se with a k&n intake and a no-name muffler. And my final friend has a 1987 black out 300zx pacesetter exhaust, intake, 10.8mm spark plug wires and heat wrapped his intake. When we all go down to the strip, The maxima he kills everyone, exept the black out 300zx. Both 300's are sohc and the maxima is dohc. What doesnt make sense to me is I am spose to get 200 horses stock. with no muffler and no resonator I am estamating another 15ish. I changed the plugs wires and put new hoses, so I have to be getting around 210 I think. This maxima has 190 stock and has about 8 intake and about 6-7 crappy muffler. so thats like 205. My car is lighter, and has much wider tires. He only has 215's. I know its not the way I race it, because I have driven his car. It is hella fast. How does this work. Some how nissan is puting the power to the ground better. How????

Are you comparing an automatic Supra with a 5-spd 93 SE Maxima? 5-spd is always faster than its automatic counterpart. Well, most of the time.

I had a 5-speed '86.5 Supra (NA) with 245/50s in the rear... The car was much more stable at speeds and cornering than my 97 Maxima. The double A arm suspension front and back, eats up most bumps/dips at high speed cornering (i don't dare do it even with my current mods in my Max). Unfortunately the Supra was/is a tank (even try push starting one?)... It's got a lot of weight to pull. The 86.5 was the lightest of that gen too. There's also the issue of FWD driveline efficency vs. RWD....

Re: Re: How is this possible?

no my supra is a 5 speed. I think you guys are getting me all wrong. I am a die hard nissan fan. I have owned 4 cars 3 of them nissan. I just got a good deal on the supra and wanted to know what makes the maxima so much quicker. Its not the horsepower, I have more, Its not the weight, I weigh les, Its not trackion, my tires are huge. What else could it be? I thought it might be the gears, but he beats me from a dead stop, service road highway, you name it. I do admit I really miss my maxima. The reason I left her was she was an automatic, and it was about to need an new one. I couldnt find another decent one down here. I dont miss the 4 doors however.
