gauges on na maxima...yes or no?

no...not for me. i talked to this guy at my school that has a few mods on his 97 maxima auto. he told me was thinking of getting a few gauges for his car. of course, i asked was he getting a sc or nos and he said no. so, i told him what's the point then? anyway, he didn't agree with me and said he's going to purchase a few gauges. not sure which gauges he will get that will make any difference. so, are gauges useless on na maximas? he told me that he not only want to do this for looks, but the gauges will actually help him monitor his car better.

well

uhm, I guess being able to monitor the A/F mixture and uh...uhm..."voltage" and stuff wouldnt hurt on N/A, but then again it wouldnt do **** to help him. your friend doesnt know what he wants the guages for, I bet he just wants to look cool. you cant stop him, but you can laugh at him.

think of it this way, at least he's not putting on a shift lite for an automatic...

i have a a/f gauge and a boost gauge.. that are sitting in a dual gage pod , that is sitting in my house.. i plan on installing them. the boost gauge is my incentive to get a s/c.. and the a/f gauge ..well i like it..

so, i see no reason why people cannot put in gauges..

are there any gauges you don't have on your car kev?

i'm NA right now and I have oil pres, oil temp, and battery. The oil pressure and temp are good to watch so I know when something is wrong with the oil, but the battery is useless.

I don't have oil pressure, oil temp, and fuel pressure (I would consider these).

Swap your battery for an EGT or fuel pressure (if you have a fuel pressure regulator).

well guess what? he went ahead and ordered the gauges anyway. he said he ordered an oil temp, oil pressure, egt, fuel pressure, and fuel temp gauges. all autometer gauges. that's a lot of gauges! he said he's going to put two gauges on the pod, and the other gauges he will do a custom setup and put the gauges where the cup holders are now. hm...interesting.

Ordering gauges are easy. Installing them are PITA. All those wiring and mounting the sensors. Fuel temp? WTF?
Oil temp gauge requires dropping the oil pan and welding a fitting for the sensor.
EGT requires a hole drilled into the exhaust and weld on the fitting.
Fuel pressure is probably the easiest. I hope he got an electric one.
Oil pressure just need some T fittings and removing the OEM oil pressure switch.

If he can't do all these himself. The labor to install all these will run him aleast $400.

Aaron,
Do you have a pic of the fitting on your oil pressure sensor? If not, do you know what's needed. The autometer oil pressure sensor is a 1/8" NPT. It also comes with a 1/8" to 1/4" NPT adaptor. I doubt the OEM is NPT (pipe thread), so I wonder what type of adaptor I might need.

I din't read the whole thing so sorry if i say somthing over. But it's not truley pointless if he's doing alot of stuff..meaing massive internels etc. But if it's just an intake and exhaust its dumb as hell. the point of gauges is to help asssit in tuning the car and montitering things incase somtihng goes wrong you can't feel. of cours if all you do is an exhuast theres nothing to tune so you don' tneed it.

Actually since the maxima is void of any decent guages, any na car would benefit from an oil pressure guage, tranny temp guage(for autos) and maybe a voltage guage(if you have a high wattage system).

Now if you mount them on the pillar w/ a 20" guage face, then well, ah...well..... get the Uncle Ben's out!

If I had gauges, that's what they would be used for with the addition of the tranmission fluid temp.

he told me he did have a few mods such as ypipe, cai, exhaust, and the jwt ecu. i think that's all he have, i'm not sure. he isn't a friend, just some guy i happen to meet at school. he noticed i was browsing the board on the computer at school, so he started to talk to me. i haven't even seen his car yet. i'm going to try to see if i bump into him again and will ask to see his car.

Do you want analog gauges, or do you want to step into the 22nd century and get digital gauges.

Analog well theres autotek, hks, apexi

Digital I say only Dakota digital...it's what I have and will be the most acurent.
