I saw something strange on an M3 today. A bunch of cars were parked in this lot so I pulled up. I saw the strangest thing, he said it was a cold air intake but it was a box wrapped in foil. Does anyone know how this works? I don't see how it would benefit the intake.

 

Sounds like a heat shield around the POP. Mostly bunk.

my friend has that on an audi tt and he also calls it cold air intake, even tho i do not think it should be called that, the purpose it to get lower then ur stock air intake.

 

The foil would shield the air intake or filter from engine heat which robs power. Their might have been a snorkel which pulled cold air either from the bottom of the car or the fenderwall. I will be building a cold air box for MAxima. Which would allow you to use your current intake. JWt, StillEn, Franken, allthewhile drawing cold air from either the front air dam or just from the bottom of the car.
