Wat would you say to someone who said...

That instead of spending thousands of dollars modding your maxima that you should have just saved up and bought a BMW or lexus?
seriously...

If you consider the size of the max, its closest to the 5 series bmw.

In that case I would have to spend a lot on my max inorder to made the difference between a 528!

Even a 3 series goes for about 40K, that still a lot of mods.

It depends on the situation. If one believes that they can mod their Maxima so that it outdrives a BMW, then they probably believe in miracles too. Sometimes it's important to believe, in truisms, concepts, etc., but all the inspiration in the world doesn't overcome physics and reality. C'mon now, BMW spent a lot of money in becoming the best Super Touring car at the track. They install 8-piston Brembos like it's going out of style. Would it make any sense to put them on a Maxima? Some people think so, and they spend the coyne. Does it accomplish much? I think the answer is pretty obvious.

There's nothing wrong with being an enthusiast and tinkering with one's car. But if you're spending $5-$15k + imho that's not money well spent. FWD, FWD, FWD, no mods gonna change it

Whats the logic behind that statement? If like to modding cars, your going to mod a Lexus or the Bimmer but with less money to spare.

Hell yeah it would be worth installing bigger calipers and rotors on a maxima! Maxima oem units suck. I see your point but the brake example is a bad one. I applaud anyone that puts better performing brakes(larger/better etc..) on their car. It shows they are thinking about the big picture about modding.

An Automobile is bought depending on $$$.. After you get the $400 a month car payment, you budget/finance the rest.

Try to budget $$ with a $600 a month car payment.

Motorheads work on anything from lawnmowers to Lexus.

People who like to fix things work around the house and car.

Like working with your hands , house and car get fixed.

See a trend?

If you mod your max , you would probably want to mod your BMW. But you would have a LOT LESS money to work with.

I will probably mod my Ferrari when I get it (F355) I would do a little to it like wheels, and a chip or something, but nothing to change the sound of the exhaust because that is the greatest sound in the world! But I like to mod my car because it is kinda like a hobby and I like to go fast *cough* I need a supercharger *cough*

Its not even about the money. Its a hobby. Its about being an enthusiast and finding things that please you. Why is it that in real estate you'll find more people willing to buy a house, and fix it up when they can just buy a house that's already fixed up for more money? Its because there is a little thing about accomplishments. Sure I can just buy a BMW and I would still mod it because there are so many others out there that are like mine and I want to be different. I specifically chose to buy a GXE when I got my 4th gen because I knew I was going to mod it. I bought the bare minimum package and am in the process of making it my own. That's why I mod my car.

The issues with me would center around reliability and value. Insurance is also a big consideration in NJ. Any BMW sedan would be more for me to insure than any Nissan sedan with my driving history.

You don't want to own a BMW over 100k miles (read this on a BMW forum) but Japanese cars are just getting warmed up around then. European cars are more expensive to fix according to my friend who owns an Audi 80 and a Pathfinder.

When it comes right down to it though, it's just a matter of preference isn't it?

Jim

Maintenance and parts costs, taxes (luxury vs not), insurance, etc. etc. etc.

Plus, I just kinda like the Maxima; it's a surprising vehicle. I'm not terribly fond of many BMW's aside from the really expensive ones like the M's or the 850's.

Lexus? I kinda like the IS's, but the rest of them do nothing for me. Again, even they are technically luxury cars (, and have more insurance/tax.

I hope to keep the max until the doors fall off, meanwhile, i'll get myself a nice little black on black 348. I sat in one once, i didn't get to drive it because the Ferrari dealership is way downtown, didn't feel like taking a 50k+ manual two-seater in downtown construction. I'll wait until they move closer to me near I-10, should be within the next year. It was so nice, i could seriously picture myself driving it. Learn on the max, keep the max, have the second car ready to kick *** on the weekend.

1) Insurance
2) Taxes
3) The time required to save that money (10-15K) would require me to drive a stock (or beater) car for far longer than is acceptable.
4) modding's fun, I've been moddin' with my friends & family for awhile, time to start on mine.

For all the money I saved I could re-do the whole engine on my maxima and blow even the M 5 away

I'd love to drive a BMW or a Lexus. But I probably can't afford:

1. to fix it
2. insurance
3. to mod it
4. to buy the damn thing in the 1st place

So I'll stick with "the poor mans BMW" for now

But other then that, I'll say wait till I graduate college
