swap manifold/valve cover for polished one!

i am considering doing the swap with 1max2nv(tony) who is a really a nice guy and his polishing is awsome but scared because i don't know who's old part i have and it might have over 100k miles on it or a hairline crack. what scares me is a problem i had with my old prelude's manifold had a hirline crack due to old age and normal engine failure because it had 128k miles on it. it cost 1500 to fix it. also how much will the dealer charge me to swap the manifold with new gasket? thanks in advance.

tony, if u are reading this, please e-mail me at:
onehotmax@hotmail.com with how much i should send you for the mainifold. i'm going to try to see if the dealer can install it for me at a reasonable price.
thanx

You can buy an salvaged manifold for $150. Don't know why the preludes' is worth fixing at $1500... If you have a few hours, you can do the swap yourself. The upper-to-lower intake manifold gasket is about $5.

swap can be done in an hour and the gasket is reusable. Order yourself ten new bolts with the rubber washers.. the old ones usually look like crap.. dip the heads of the bolts if you like for a hotmax look...

Let me clear few things up.

Intake manifold and valve cover are not extremly critical parts. Don't get me wrong, it's important they are clean. You can ask anyone that has bought a valve cover or intake manifold from me. They are clean with no oil. This is what I do. If the valve cover or manifold is extremely gunked up. I pay to have a machine shop dip them in their degreaser tank and then cut them with a power washer. If they have only minor oil build up, I just go to town with carb cleaner and engine degreaser. After they come back from polishing, there are bunch of polishing compound residues. I use simple green and carb cleaner to clean them up. I spend about 30 mins just to prep them before polishing and another 10 mins after they come back from polishing. I throughly check for cracks, so nothing I sell will have a crack in them.
