Car hesitating...fuel problem?
Car hesitating...fuel problem?
Last night I installed the sender for my FP guage. In doing so I put a slight kink in the fuel line after the fuel filter. I didn't think it would be a big deal. However, in driving the car if I open the throttle more than half way the car jerks really bad. I'm assuming that its just not getting enough fuel. This doesn't happen with no load however, just when the car's moving.
I'm going to PepBoys today after work to get some FI hose and fix the problem (assuming that's what it is). Anyone know what size we need? 1/4" I think...
Do I have any reason to suspect something else? Or does it sound like a fuel problem.

get new hose..it's probably 5/16"..double check.
your car is prob knocking/pinging...starving for fuel. get it fixed asap.
So I fixed it tonight. A few things though...I used 1/4" FI hose rather than the stock 5/16". I didn't have a choice as the only hose sizes the parts store had were 1/4" and 1/2". Is too small going to be a problem? Would this raise fuel pressure? Is that a bad thing? The hose is on fine and there are no leaks.
Also, after starting it back up, the engine seemed to pulsate at idle. You could hear it in the exhaust. I shut it down. Let it sit a few minutes, started it up and it ran like a champ. Could that just be from killing the fuel pressure and then bringing it back up?
Also, we know its bad to run the engine without fuel. Is it hurting the car to pull the fuel pump fuse to relieve the pressure in the fuel pressure, then idle the car until it stalls? That is the FSM recommended procedure.

Also, does making the hose any longer cause any problems? I'd be adding a few inches right after the fuel filter.

Will using smaller hose cause any problems in the short term (IE - I change it tomorrow after work)?
