Anyone with or know someone with a car older than 15yrs
I was on the Summit Racing site and saw this, this stuff is kinda scary when you also have a love for muscle cars.
Akron, Ohio -- For years, the performance industry and enthusiasts like you have dealt with government emissions and vehicle scrappage programs. They were intended to help clean the air or improve fuel efficiency, but have often hurt our hobby by restricting modifications or eliminating sources of parts. Thanks to combined efforts by the industry and enthusiasts, many of these programs have been successfully modified or repealed.
Now, new proposed U.S. government legislation threatens to take state vehicle scrappage programs to the next level. U.S. Senate Bill S.1766 contains a provision (Section 803) that would allocate federal funds for state scrappage programs for vehicles more than 15 years old.
Not only does that threaten the existence of 1960s and ’70s era musclecars, it also means Mustangs, Camaros, Grand Nationals, Corvettes, and other performance vehicles made in the 1980s could also be fodder for the crusher.
What’s worse, non-performance vehicles that are an invaluable resource for engines, suspension components, and other parts would also be subject to the program.
This is one thing that should not get passed, it will kill the entire auto performance hobby as we know it, if it does get passed.

From what I've read, states get pollution credits for destroying certain numbers of vehicles. Problem is that most of these cars are already in the scrap yards where they aren't even polluting, and destroying them won't help the pollution problems anyway. I personally see it as an attempt to kill the auto enthusiast industry.
Think maybe the Moderators could put together some kind of huge petition for the members to sign that could be sent to legislators, Hot Rod Magazine (they're BIG on stopping this) or Summit Racing, etc.? Maybe even send it around to other boards.
Good idea Badaxxima, we should start a petition to save the auto performance industry. Imagine, how many people would lose their jobs if this gets passed, I bet lots and lots, espically performance shops that is specialized in cars older than 15 years old.
I wish I could sign that petition! I don't even LIVE in the US, but I get seriously steamed whenever I hear about crap like that! What did it for me was reading (probably a HRM article) about all these old collectable cars being driven to Chevron's crusher years ago because they'd give some bucks to some old person who's kept it garaged and perfect for years but no longer drives it... arrrrrgh!!!
They saved a few of them I remember but also watched helplessly as others rolled towards their doom.DO SOMETHING!!!!

Our economy's having enough trouble as is. Advertising companies, whole magazines devoted to specific models/brands/generations, aftermarket companies, OEM replacement companies, mechanics, the entire NHRA "nolstagia" class, NMCA, NHRA, most national car shows, so on and so forth would all suffer greatly from a measure like this. If this passed, imagine how many others like it could also come through, considering legislative action rarely stops when it should.

Okay I started a Cardomain webpage and I'm hoping to use my guestbook as a petition. Use my Homepage link to get to it. Here is a link to the actual Bill:
Senate Bill sf1766 Title-VIII Subtitle-A Section-803

CA proposed that about 10 years ago for environmental issues and never got anywhere. Let's say it passes, how will this "scrappage" be accomplished? We can't even find qualified air marshalls. Sometimes we need to do a reality check because there's alot of noise out there.
