What grit sandpaper do you go down to to get it to look polished?

i know you probably want an answer from someone who has done this, sorry, but i would recommend going to at least a 1500 and 2000 would do it for sure. You can get 3m brand from walmart for about $2.50 for a few sheets.

I went to 600 on mine. I'd suggest that you keep going. Looking at it close you can still see scratchs in it.

Get it professionally done. I did one myself and I got one professionally done. There is just no way you can get great result without some type of heavy duty polisher. I spend total of 8 - 10 hours on mine and couldn't even come close to the pro result. You can get one done for $150-$200. Let me know if you are interested. I'm doing a core swap program pretty soon. There are few guys in the DC group that are interested. The waiting list for my local polishing shop is two weeks, so core swap is the only way.

60 120 200 400 600 steel wool then used a buffing pad mounted on a high speed drill, put 1st stage heavy duty polish on and went over it then took a second pad and put 3rd stage polish on. It looks great, probably not as good as a pro job, but not bad for me and 2 friends with 20 bucks. I can see my self in it I'd say go for it, its not to hard, just time consuming.

Almost OT, I guess...

Anybody with a painted valve cover?? I love how the R34 GT-R has one painted in glossy red. It'd be sweet in my Max, imho. Either that, or I'd get it painted in glossy black to match the exterior. Do I just need some high-temp paint?

I think they are powder coated. Either way, you will still need to polish it before hand to get that glossy look.
