The new Maxima will be a 2004 model release late 2003 and will be based off of the Altima chassis meaning it will be FWD and/or possibly AWD. My personal opinion is the two will look very similiar. As far as I know, there are no pics for this car yet. I say some sketches but who knows how accurate they are.

From what I here so far, I'm not too impressed with the Max/Altima merge...in the fall of 2003

Re: Re: Correction
I can definitely say that's not a Maxima.
It's the Nissan Skyline (rebadged as Infiniti G35 for US market).
I've got an identical silver-color right-hand drive Skyline in the parking lot outside my workplace right now. It's got a Nissan badge in front since it's right-hand drive. But no license plate in front

As I stated before, the pictures are for the Nissan Skyline that is our G35 in RWD only. The new Maxima will be based on the current Atlima chassis and will be built at the same plant here in the good old US of A. That means it will be either FWD or AWD or both. It will be introduced in late 03 as an 04 model. Yes, the current Maxima has one more year of production.

If it is the new Maxima and it really comes out late this year as a 2003 model, I will buy one for Russ.
Then he can see what it looks like when people write checks for cars instead of financing them........
Russ,
You have been misinformed. The next Max will be out in '03 as an '04 model. I know because I work and live a few miles from where they will be built.

There's already an awd version of the Skyline/G35 in Japan, but it isn't the 272ps version. Since the platforms will be somewhat similar, Nissan could probably move this system into the 6th gen Maxima.
Nissan really shouldn't have the Maxima just be fwd. There'd no real advantage to buying it over the Altima. It would be pretty much the same blunder Acura made(IMHO) in offering a fwd CL and TL, both available with 260hp engines, and then have the fwd RL with only 215hp. Why would someone shell out the extra cash for a slower more expensive car? That's why the RL-replacement is rumored to be sharing a V8 with the next NSX.
