This is why I hate my maxima...
Don't ask how it happened. I don't even know. One day it just started fading and got worse. No matter how much wax I put on, it just goes back to this after a day or so of sitting in the sun. Just hope it doesn't happen to you.

Whatever my mom did to it before I got it, she needs to be shot for it. I'm so ****ed. At least, I was ****ed. I don't car anymore. It's been like this for almost a year now. And yes, I was behind my mom's RX300 (which was in the garage).

I don't know. I'm pretty sure there is no clear coat. Whatever did this, ate all the way to the primer.

You were a big boy for your 3 year old birthday party

To me it looks like acid rain hit the hood and then the heat from the hot hood made the acid eat through the paint. Go buy some color matched spray paint and do it up

That really sucks.. hopefully you can get that hood painted. I would be ****ed too if that happened to mine.. oh btw, I was visiting your site and I saw that you were in BPA. I was in BPA too. I went to Anaheim, CA for Nationals last year and I won fifth place in Computer Aided Graphics.. I think it's pretty cool that someone who owns a max is also in BPA.

Damn dude, that sucks. And I thought our 92 Integra's hood looked like crap w/ a paint chip.
I heard that painting the hood is actually pretty easy. My friend did it to his moms old car and it turned out ok....then when he tried it on another body panel, it turned out awesome. just look online for some how-to sites.

BTW, if anyone goes to my website, it's got to be at least 1 year old. Most of the pics are from the summer of 2000. I don't look the same at all! My hair is more like it is in my sig.

Okay, who are you. I know you're from OT, but I'm not sure who you are (as there are a lot of maxima owners on OT).

I bet your hood was painted before and the shop that did it used crap paint. Now the newer paint's primer or color is failing. I would NOT recommend doing it yourself. If you think you can just DIY paint and have it look even close to factory, you are kidding yourself.
Ask mommy if it has been repainted before and get it to a shop for a quote. DIY is asking for trouble

Okay, I asked my mom if she ever had anything done to the hood. Not long after she had gotten the max, someone had created a large scratch across the front of the hood (she said it looked like a coat zipper did it or something). She brought the maxima to a shop and they touched it up. They never said if they painted the whole hood. She said they doubt they would have (as the scratch was only on the very front), but it could have been possible. I doubt it, but does anyone know if a shop would just paint the whole hood to make it look like it wasn't touched up or anything? If, in fact, the hood was painted, that's the problem. If it's the original paint, then it's probably a factory flaw. One of my friends truck had the EXACT same problem. Her truck overheated and created something very similiar to what I've got, but only in a small patch in the center of the hood.
Does anyone know how much it would cost to have the hood repainted? If the cf hood is just as much as a new paint job, then I'll just go the cf route and save myself the trouble. If paintings cheaper (by at least $100), then I'm just gonna get it repainted black.
