I hope the server can handle the load and it can stay on for awhile.
Enjoy.

yeah, I was there and it was amazing to see the HP difference between the supplied cone with the intake that was obviously too small, and the larger intake.

i used that filter when i got my 10hp gain. on the k/n website there is a formula for size of a filter and this one is within the size range, just barely but it supposed to be big enough, HOWEVER i am using a larger filter now.

I was standing diagonally opposite the engine (beside Leadfoot) and, believe me, the echo off the back walls amplified that sound and i had to plug my ears!
cheers

Maybe you can PM akrus to email John for specs, it was taken off his car.
Did you DL the quicktime plugin? Link is on the top of the page.
Correction: Here are two pix to approximate the size difference. 'Stock' Franken is on the left.

Sorry, I'm pretty sure I didn't get a shot of the larger K&N. Going by memory, it was flared out more and I would guesstimate that it was 30 - 40 % larger in diameter.

I think my stillen velocity stack teamed up with the franken ram piece may be causing some turbulance in the air stream resulting in my low peak power #'s(we will see!).
I will have to get the franken MAFS adapter and see if that fixes the problem. As soon as I get my Greddy exhaust I will dyno this and also see what my RT cat did for power.

Here's a pic of the filter I'm using now on my hybrid intake. I don't think I could really go any bigger, right?

Thanks leadfoot
Thanks for taking and then hosting the vids. Much appreciated.
Two things need to be pointed out re: the larger filter
1) the Rod Millen velocity stack was used to mount the filter to the Frankencar MAF adapter. The opening on the larger filter is MUCH bigger than on the filter that came with the FC. The large opening is reduced by way of the Rod Millen VS so it mated up with the hose included with the FC intake. The VS was also very thin, it showed signs of being disformed, nothing sever, but evident none the less.
2) the dyno proved that there was only a 2hp difference between the original filter on the FC (http://www.cenpipe.com/~akrusvar/maxima/run5sae.jpg) and the larger filter using the rest of the FC intake (http://www.cenpipe.com/~akrusvar/maxima/run4sae.jpg). This, IMO is a small gain. The most intriguing reason to go with the larger filter is the sound - deeper sounding and starts growling quite a bit earlier.
In the end, I'm not sure the added cost of the RM VS would make me jump for joy regarding the 2hp, I might be more excitable gaining the deeper growl.
