I heard that K&N filters work better when they are a little dirty.
I clean mine about once or twice a year...
There's really no need to clean it more than that, unless you live somewhere out in the middle of a desert...

once a year should be more than enough.

The "little dirty" part is from K&N's mouth, I kinda don't buy it. Just apply physics!! Technically I think it relates to the oil film, so don't use alot. I think they say that because even they admit that not as much air flows through it after it's been cleaned.

I have the panel and after I got the 60k service of course I got a brand-new Nissan air filter. I left it in for about 600 miles and compared it to a cleaned and reoiled K&N. The new Nissan gave me an extra mpg on an identical highway trip of about 90 miles each way. Who knows, it's not pure science, it could have been windier the day I drove with the K&N.

Anyway, the crucial thing with cleaning and reoiling is DO NOT OVEROIL. Just spray it in a manner where you see pink, don't drench the filter with the oil. Hey, I like seeing that color and so does Aerosmith!
