I've noticed that my VQ does not have a smooth power delivery at part throttle. At WOT, no problems... but at part throttle... it's jerky, you can feel it. It's always done this since the car was new... BTW the car is an automatic.

Does any one else have this problem? auto or manual.

I have a few theories:
1) knocking... at part throttle engine runs lean. Knocks, knock sensor pulls back timing.

2) Tranny related. Somehow something is slipping some where....

So any thoughts?

Dirty TB

EGR valve that's dirty

PCV valve that has a small vacuum leak.

Bad plug

Coil pack

WOT is hard to tell if the engine is actually working okay or not beucase it's spinning faster. Small hesitations are hard to hear/feel. IMHO

Take a peek at the feedback section will ya??

Yeah, Wife 2.0's does that as well -->

Sounds like 99 isn't the only year this is happening.....

We both particularly notice it when at part throttle from 30 to 50 MPH.

EGR dirty... have to check...
TB dirty... well since this problem always existed and I know atleast when I first installed the intake, it was clean... I am not sure. Maybe this could be an issue now.
Bad plug... I don't think this is true, cause I ahev changed plugs and it happened before and after.
Coil packs... man expenisve is the word that comes to mind.

Hmm... so let's see

98 Maxima:
Rattles in center dash
Rattles at air vent
Rattles in A pillar
Rattles in rear deck
fixed window regulator
fixed side airbag issue (Twice)
noise fan motor
paint chips VERY easily
Seat creeks/pops
Power delivery issues.

Oh all these problems exists sinec about 1 month after I bought the car.
fun fun fun

That complaint list is nothing compared to the GTP list..
My tranny is kinda herky jerky at low speed low throttle situations. Never really noticed any power deliver problems. Like what kinda driving situation brings it on? So I can try to replicate it on my car. The car doesn't really feel all that strong under 3k rpm under light throttle. Ever since the intake. Is that what you're talking about?

Just normal driving... I mean light turns green, give it about 1/2 throttle and the car jerks along...

I know the car is relatively weak below 3k. What I am talking about is jerking... not side to side, but it's an obvious power delievery problem.. you are "thrown" front to back. It's weird... like the engine cutting in and out.

It's a 98... has been doing that since I could remember... I never thought too much about it b/c the car other wise runs fine and actually I've posted this a few times... and i've had the same theories, but can't prove them.

I dont know about you Shing...but when i have a full car i can feel it more. Its not a bad back-n-forth type jump..its just a slight power fluctuation in the 2 to 3k rpm area.
