50 shot nitrous - Is it really necessary to go to colder plugs and/or decrease gap?

Well, my nitrous (NOS 5124) installation is almost finished...just some more electrical connections and running the main line and that's it! Gonna start out with a 50 shot.

I know colder plugs are an added measure of safety to prevent detonation, but is it really necessary for a 50 shot? Has anyone out there running a 50 shot actually experienced detonation while using normal heat range plugs? I heard using colder plugs will hinder off-the-bottle performance =/ (Currently installed are normal heat range NGK Iridium plugs with about 20000 miles on them; however, I have a new set of one-step-colder NGK Iridiums on hand. Currently installed are also a FP gauge and Tomei A/F meter.)

Also, is decreasing the gap really necessary? Has anyone running a 50 shot actually experienced a gain in performance by decreasing the gap? (My current power mods are CAI, Y-pipe, RT Cat, Greddy, & UDP)

Thanks in advance.

Nice A/F meter... What brand of FP gauge do you have? Are you thinking about a N2O pressure gauge, too? How/Where do you have them mounted? Please advise.

(As you might guess, I'm getting ready for a NOS install, too. Just waiting for my Cattman/JWT upgraded ECU and nitrous control daughter board to ship. I've got everything else except gauges, pods, etc.)

Thank you.

Why did you use a 5124NOS instead of the 5123NOS??? Just wondering since the 5124 kit is for 3.1L - 4.0L and the 5123 kit is for 2.4L - 3.0L

Decreasing gap will make sure you get a spark. It's a good idea to decrease the gap. Try .040" if you are running 50 shot.
