tell us the real deal
How little is the car dealer willing to take on a sale? I've heard $200. When I bought my car in FEb 98 another guy in the office bought a maxima. Mine listed for 29,400 and his for under 27, and we paid the same price!! He was so pissed off he went back to the dealer and they told him they couldn't sell "his" car for the same discount as mine, right. I got $6100 off list and someone told me the dealer still made around $500 off of me (cash back was going on back then), so I should have taken another $300 off.
haha now you can spread the gospel about dealer holdbacks. also tell us if the great Maxima giveaway is going to happen again, because I'll buy another if I can get 7,000 off list hahaha

Re: dealer price?
I would like to know what the invoice is on a strip GXE since that is what I purchased new in '98.

if you want dealer price . . .
dealer holdbacks, special deals, financing rates, dealer incentives, etc., go to http://www.edmunds.com. It's pretty accurate. They'll also price used cars.

Well, my first day is Saturday, so I'll start to learn the ropes. Don't worry, as soon as I find out how much all the Nissan cars cost, you know I'll let my "family" know! Oh, BTW, salesman make 30% off the gross profit, so if the dealer only makes $200, the salesman will only make $60. Oh, and I work for Powers Nissan in Midwest City, OK.

Cost
You ask and you shall receive. I work for the Nissan plant here in Smyrna, TN and we get all Nissan vehicles for 4% over dealer cost. I bought my 2K SE Maxima with everything on it except Traction Control and the Med. Edition for $25,200. Take the 4% off and you know what the dealer pays.

Re: Congratulations...
i know i was late but here goes.
every vehicle has 3 costs.
manufacturers cost
dealer cost/invoice
retail
whenever a dealer X buys a car from nissan at "invoice". nissan has already made their money and now the car belongs to dealer X now it is up to him to sell the car for a profit. that is where the 800 to 3000 dollar mark up comes in. (dependant on vehicle) if you want to know what a dealer pays for a car look at edmunds or carfax.com belive it or not those are the #'s the only difference that there is between one dealer and another is what is known as M.A. The Marketing Assessment fee is what Nissan charges all the dealers to do advertising. It changes between Nissan's various sales districits, the dealer that i worked for is charged $200.
As far as true (manufactureres)cost is concearned i dont know what that is: plus not to many dealers are willing to sell a car for significantly less than their cost-invoice, unless its an "ad car". How do you think rebates work: for instance Nissan has sold enough Altimas (through there dealers) that they have been offering 1400 cash back since at least march.
