I am sending my moms car to my house in Germany. Its a 1995 Nissan Maxima GXE automatic...I am wondering ...how fast can this model go?

I had a 1996 GXE manual and it wouldn't break 118 (fuel cut off) but my 1996 SE manual that i have now clears 140 on the speedometer.

so i'm lefted puzzled? anyone with a auto ever test there speed?

GXE's are limited at 120. I got my '95 GLE auto burried past the 140 to aprox. 150 or so. She had more in her, but I chicked out. That was with intake and full exhaust mods though. I think they might max out before 160 though, but they can definatley hit the 150s.

I don't think it's a fuel cut off, but rather a rev limiter. There's and ECU mod you can do (basically cut a wire so the car doesn't know how fast you're going) I think it's because of the cheaper tires from the factory. I have an SE, but it's auto and only goes to about 118 too. I sucks, but ask SprintMax, i think he did the mod. If you're worried about permanently doing something, just install a switch, so you can turn it on or off. : )

yeah Ben cant remember his screen name did this mod. He just cut the wire though. I believe Sprintmax put the switch in. Mtmtg or something like that is Bens SN he has a pic of his speedo in his sig. Take Care

A buddy of mine used to have a 95 GXE and his would cut out at 120mph because of the fuel cut off too, so i'm figuring it's around the same or less for the auto. Either way your Mom is going to get smoked on the Autobahn.

I am stationed in Germany and I have a 97 SE I had it up to 135 on the autobahn here. Man was that scary.

I have a 96 GXE auto.. The fastest I've gone was a little over 140..

Once AGAIN, the only way to tell how fast your GXE will go is to take it out and see. That's The ONLY way. Dont listen to anyone who says GXEs with the Security and Convenience package arent limited. I have that package and a limiter.

Ok, SEs and GLEs are not limited...at all.

Only some GXEs are limited. The only way to tell is to go out and see how fast it will go. It's a fuel cut off, not a rev limiter. Equipment packages dont tell you a thing. I have a GXE Auto with the S&C package and a limiter.

I wanted these guys to give me the answer? People keep sleeping on the GXE's and what they are capable of.

You and I must be an exception because somehow I remember hitting 135mph going back from Maxus.

inconsistant tops speed on my car..

Sometimes it wouldn't budge past 124mph, other times it won't budge past 127mph, other times it cuts off at 131mph, other times I can get it past 135mph.

The top speed limiter on the Maxima is not a soft limiter. You dont just cruise up to the limited speed and stay there. It violently cuts the fuel supply.

You're zooming up fast on 117 then all of a sudden your car shakes and the RPMs drop to idle. But you are still accellerating from intertia so you slowly slow back down below the limiter...boom, fuel back on charging up again until, shudder, fuel cut, back down to idle...

You could back and forth like this all day.

If you ease up to 127 or so, and then just stop accellerating, you're not hitting a limiter. Keep OD off until you redline 3rd gear (the exact moment in my sig pic) then hit OD on so you will drop into 4th gear at a higher RPM, and keep climbing...very slowly...

This must come up about twice a month huh?
