6th gen civic mods vs 4th gen maxima mods.....
I have a question/comment and I like to see everyone else's comments too. Of course we all know that the civic has a huge aftermarket were as we have a very small one. The question is if you had a 99-00 civic SI and a 95-99 maxima 5spd with $4000 to spend total! Which car do you think would be faster at the drag strip? The reason I say drag strip is because alot more people are into that rather than the road/autoX racing. I don't want to compare NA mods because without a motor swap the 6th gen civic at best is a mid 14 sec car. Where as a simularly modded max with NA bolt ons would run the same times. Maybe I'm missing something but is quanity really better than quality? Sure the civic has like 3-6 different sets of coilovers, spring/shock combinations, lots of body kits, several exhausts/headers/intakes/cam gears to choose from. That doesn't mean that our selection is any worse.

i dunno, for 4K you can pretty much drop an SC in it and run 14's. Maybe even high 13's with a 5sp. It'd take a lot to get a Si to those numbers. I saw a show where the strapped a JR S/C to a Civic Si and it ended up putting down about 175hp to the wheels after the SC was added. I don't think 170hp is fast enough to keep up with a SC'd Max. Im assuming the SC's cost about the same for each car too. my $.02
Ok that's not even a far comparison. where everyone seems to forget is the fact that Civics have 1.6 liter engines and the Maixma 3. Quantity is better than quality in after market... why? Cause when you have a lot of competition, in order to sell one of two things have to happen: 1) you lower your pricing or 2) you make good **** and sell it at the higher price.
But let's just say I play this game...
Vortec charger for $4000 give or take a few on a Si will out run the Maxima with SC. You are the one that showed me that dyno so you should know the potential.
As for the comment about taking a lot to run 13's with the SC... not really. JRSC is $2400, send it to endyne for modifications, about $1500. You will easily get 15-20psi out of the charger... right in the $4000 limits set up Ari.
What I believe is missing is the enjoyment factor. As a person that enjoys driving, its not just about straight line. CAuse we all know that my CRX was a lot slower than my Maxima when it was stock. But hell, that car is about 10 times more fun to drive in than the Maxima. Now with 9000rpms, VTEC, and a nice sounding exhaust... it's just that much more fun.
Again I stress... 1.6 liter 4 Vs. 3.0 liter V6.

Woudn't it be better to compare cars of the same class? I mean why not compare the Accord V6 and Max instead? I only say this because if I was in the market for a Civic, I wouldn't be looking at the Maxima as an alternative.

Shing-
Please don't use the riceboy argument of "you've got more displacement". It doesn't hold up these days. A ITR makes more power than the 4th gen Max and you don't hear those guys complaining. You sure really love to knock Maximas whenever someone mentions a honda vs Maxima thread. One reason you think your CRX Si is so great is because it is a 5 speed. Your Max is an auto. If you had a 5 speed Max, the fun factor is 10X greater with the car. And it would be quite a bit faster.
Everyone else-
I drove my buddies stock Si this week and it felt pretty slow IMHO. I've never driven a car that had so little torque. We raced from a stop and from a roll and the my Maxima put numerous car lengths on him. Point is, the Si has a lot of distance to make up. With $4000 you can buy turbo and SC systems for the Si, where as with the Maxima you only have a SC to choose. With intake/exhaust mods alone, the Si doesn't stand a chance against a 5 speed 4th/5th gen Max. When you add blower, both cars will be very very close. With good drivers (ie average track guys) mid 13s are very possible with artifical induction on both these cars. If you've got more money to go fast, then the Si is the only way to go.
