225/45/18 or 235/45/18
225/45/18 or 235/45/18
After one day of driving on my 235/40/18 wheels. I've concluded I could use more rubber. I want to go with a higher profile tire but I'm not sure if I should get 225/45/18 or 235/45/18.
My questions are if anyone has experience with these tire sizes which is the best for comfort? I'll be selling the 2 day old 18" tires I'm roling on now when I buy higher profile tires if anybody is interested.

I would definately go with a 45 series profile tire though if I could do things over again.
i just ordered a set of 18 in rims with 225/40/18 tires. hopefully the ride is not all that bad. i know the speedo's goin to be off and that most people have 235/40..but it was a package price deal. well see..
I wish I would have gotten 235/45/18. I have 225/40/18 now on my 18x7 wheels. I have already bent the front two on the inner lip when I ran over a crack in the road. I had to get them fixed. Probably due to the lack of sidewall. I did the calculations and my speedo would only be over by 1 mile if I had 45 series tires. I can deal with that for more security on the road. And a more comfortable ride.
At high speed, my car vibrates at the steering wheel like a bit**. I have had it aligned and had the wheels balanced. It helps some but it still doesn't get rid of it.
Get either the widest profile 18-inch tire you can get (235 or 245) or go with 45 series tires. Oh, and get 18x8! Nothing less.
My 2 cents.

Based on the link about it takes the Stock 17" wheel 25.86 inches to complete 1 rotation so the 225/45/18 tire would be the better choice: taking 25.97 inches to complete a rotation where as the 235/45/18 takes 26.32 inches. That is what i'm basing my decision on.

What is the stock offset My 18" wheels should have the same offset since i didn't request any special offset? I think I would go with the 235/45 18 instead but 245/45/18 sounds too bulky and might weigh too much.

WTF is up with 45-series 18"? The only legit width I know of is 255 which is not suitable for the Max.
I think the 225-235/45/18's are too bulky looking.... Either way the common ratio is 225-235/40/18. The 45's are hard to find... Tirerack doesn't carry 225 or 235/45/18's in any brand.
Just go with the 235/40/18, it's not that much of a difference.

too bad i already ordered the 225/40..im screweeeeeddd in ny
i think im gonna change over to at LEAST 235/40 next year..dont wanna ruin any of these rims dammit!!
most people on the board either have or favor the 235/40/18 setup so i dont see why it can be so bad..

When I got my wheels aligned the guy looked over my car, and when I told him 235/40-18 on 18x8, he goes "you're lucky." I'm like how so? He said whoever sold me this package did it right. Most of the time people come in with plus 1 or plus 2 and they don't have the right size or rims. I was kinda skeptical but after reading these posts I realize the Tire Rack probably is very knowledgable and wont sell you the wrong setup. But it seems other places will. I'd say if the 225's are on the way, then just refuse them via UPS or FedEX. They may still charge you the shipping though.
