everybody let's get yer 18's on

Hey, I really like the 18's alot. I do not see any problems with the ride at all caused by the 40-series (could it be due to the all-season tire??). And thanks to technology 18's are affordable. Granted there are only 4 all-season tires available, with 2 at under $160 it's really not much more than 16". The only thing I see is far less choice than 17's, but same price. Rims are not that expensive either anymore. Like everything else, 18's are the old 17's, and the 19's are the untouchables. But c'mon, even Vettes have 17's in fronts and 18's in back, as did that Lotus Espirit that I saw yesterday. So Maxima owners should put them at all 4's! They look great!!

Now, one thing I noticed about the alignment. After it took place yesterday, my steering wheel is PERFECTLY centered. WTF?? With 0 miles on my car in 1998, I took the car back to the dealer and complained about it being off-center to the right. They told me not to go by the Nissan emblem on the wheel, go by the alignment specs. I took it in a total of 3 times before the 12k warranty expired and they never fixed it. Then 38,000 miles later I take it to a mom-and-pop shop and pay $49 and they fix it. DANG!

Re: Re: everybody let's get yer 18's on

No, I live in Phila. where the roads and the drivers SU**! If I go on a regular route I know where the potholes are. On Essington Ave. heading towards Passyunk I have to use some of the shoulder to avoid the sinkholes around the refineries. But I mean what I say, short of the curbs I don't see any detriment to the ride with 40's. I don't have any suspension mods, stock struts and springs. I think if you're getting new rims, 17's are a mistake when 18's are attractively priced, but we can debate it!

He has got a point though. If you get 18's with the wrong tires and a low tread rating, your ride will be worse. Trust me I know.

By the way, which tires do you have?

Has anybody ever mounted 45 series tires on their 18s?

BTW your rims are SWEET!

I was on a LOW budget, and I got 18x8 with 235/40-WR18 Sumitomo. Seriously, I don't like Kuhmo or Falken, no offensse. But Sumitomo is Japanese and it has a 360 AA A M+S rating for $131. I'm really not trying to knock 17's, because don't they look awesome on a E36 M3? But I'm just trying to say if you're in the market for an upgrade today, go for 18's. You shouldn't have to spend more than $1100.

Whats the ride like on those 235/40-WR18s? Did you did you do any mods like stiffen the suspension etc?

Eibach's and 18s?? I KNOW you'll be singing a different tune when you upgrade. All aftermarket upgrades, compared to a stock SE, not GXE or GLE, an SE, are more firm. I went from stock SE to H&R and Toks, generally considerd a mild upgrade, and THAT was more firm. Eibach's are considered the best for handling, but he ride, well, if you can take it, enjoy!
