Spanked a M3 on the highway today!

I was driving down the road and noticed two cars ahead of me was a nice looking 95-99 red M3. Then I noticed it had a exhaust system...hmm . So I put my signal on to turn right onto the highway and he does the same(ohh yeah!). He went on the exit ramp quickly and I knew he was game. Once he merged onto the highway he gunned it and I had to wait a second for the car between us to get out the the damn way! I droped my car in secong gear at 40 MPH and just took off, he had a 6 car lead from the get go but now I was realling him in and fast! I stayed on it and nailed 3rd grear and let out a nice cHiiirp, I was closing in on him and fast! I stuck with it and so did he, the gap was closing rapidly, top of 3rd gear came and we were side by side, then I shifted into 4th and blew by him. Ha, it was a lot of fun. We played a little bit more on the highway and I got a real kick out of looking at the M badge on his front grill in my rearview mirror, he could not hang! From the drivers posture(sloutched getto style to the left) I think it was a auto M3, none the less, I spanked an M3!(again ). I feel bad for the guy and his 2 door "sport sedan" becuase he got WALKED by "cough family sedan cough".

Before the dowters come in, take a look at a auto M3's power band and then take a look at mine, I own them..

Heres my dyno chart

I agree on a straight away you can beat an M3, but anyone can drive fast in a straight line. I imagine if you were in a real race where you had turns and the such the M3 with a decent driver would have left the max. Our sedan is not solid enough to handle the twisties.

So you pulled 6+ cars on the guy, I dont believe that. M3s arent that slow, you sure it wasnt a re-badge M car?

Geez, give Ewok some credit.

1) It's not Ethan's fault if the M3 "homie" choses to race on the freeway

2) He did NOT pull 6 cars. He was 6 cars BEHIND and then caught up

From what i read both had it floored the whole time. Emax was behind 6 carlengths and caught up and passed him. Thats pulling 6+ carlengths in my book

The E36M3 had like 240hp? Let's assume he's auto. Ewok has 255hp+ w/ mods and 6 gears. So we are talking like a 15-25hp difference now + any gear ratio differences(if any). I think he could do 6 cars?

Plus the 3.5VQ is is not the 5000rpm+ cliff diver like the VQ30 is. This engine features the varible intake manifold and the new style VTCs. Both should give this engine great highway pulling power.

240 hp is correct. If i remember correctly all Coupes are manual, except for 95. Maybe he raced a 95 3.0L auto??

Heres my dyno plot, it makes considerbale high end power. With the 6spd the gearing allows me to be in 200+ FWHP the whole time.

["edit"] I just posted my most recent dyno plot under my first post. (it won't fit here)["edit"]

Medic, with my mods my car can handle "probably" better then a stock M3, or alteast almost as good. Once my 245/40/18's come in tomarrow my max will handle extremely well.

Maybe? But even a 5spd 96 + M3 would not be able to hang with me on the highway.

Ethan.. if only you lived in Florida man...you would fill me with pride as my classmates watched on as you spanked every single car at my school (with the exception of the Lightning of course, which you would still hang with!)

Anyways good job on the race and way to represent the MAXIMA man!

Props

Your car vs a 3.2L 5 speed M3 would be a good race up top imo.

How do you know that? M3s arent slow on the highway, especially a 5 speed. As for handling, lets be realistic here an M3 will outhandle a Maxima everytime. Take a fully modded Maxima to a road course like Gingermen and the M3 will smoke it. Hell my friends 95 Rustang will take any Maxima on this board on a race course

Sorry but the 3.5L is a cliff diver after 5500rpm or so. The only one that isn't is the 2000-2001 VQ. Drive one, you will feel it loose alot of power after that.

Look at his dyno. Look at a e36 dyno.

Can a e36 beat a gs400 on the highway?

Ya cornering goes to the M3 no doubt. All driver though. A 6spd especially modded is a beast man. Seriously I think you underestimate how quick they are especially on the highway in this case emax.

Russ take a look at my dyno plot I just posted above, then think about what you just said. My car "peaks" a 6350 RPM and at 6500 RPM(redline) my car still makes 180 FWHP. So another words, my car never looses power.

Nope, an auto was offered in the M3 in the Luxury package. I don't know exactly the years but it was later in the model line.

Your looking at my torque curve not my HP curve.

Also the dyno plot I posted above was a old dyno plot(before RT cat and Greddy). I just posted my real dyno plot under my first post(to large to post here) Now look at the HP curve not the TQ curve Russ

To quote another org member, "you realize that's what all the Mustang guys are sayin' about us right?", but you're right.

beating on non-GTS celicas is like taking candy from a baby - should be illegal, and shameful! you should only be allowed to race them if you're on a bicycle. then it will be a tighter race.
still not sure who'd win.

He was in a VG/auto. It's an exception.
