AutoMeter EGT guage question

I installed the guage this weekend and it works perfectly while running...however, when I turn the car off, the needle on the guage jumps up! It usually hangs out around 1200 or so when there is no power to it.

Once I turn the power back on, the guage drops down to the correct temperature.

Anyone ever seen anything like that?

Mine does the same thing. If you really want to know why it does that, give autometer a call.

This is somethign that is common in many companies setups. Maybe it is readon ohms somewhere. I think that is how the gauges ooperate is by reading that and then responding with the needle position.

What size probe did you use (3/16 or 1/4)? Where did you install the probe. Where did you install the gauge? What temps do you get under WOT? Cruising at highway speeds? Around town? Thanks.

Thanks guys. Glad to hear its normal.

I got this probe so welding would not be needed in the install.

Guage is installed on the A-pillar. Probe is in the front most bank, as high on the y-pipe as I could get.

WOT I've gotten up to 1400, highway around 75 gets me about 1200-1300.

Yeah, like said before, it is normal. Most "good" electrical gauges do this. Some cheaper ones do not.

Yeah. My guage is F and over 800C is bad. 800C is about 1475F.
