Question for people who have ordered from Paintscratch.com

I have a '96 Deep Evergreen GXE paint code: DP0. Im interested in painting my chrome door handles body color but Im a little confused as to what is needed to complete this task when ordering from paintscratch.com.

According to their site, it says that I need a clearcoat which I understand but under the ordering portion, it doesnt list a basecoat that I can purchase. It lists touch up paint.

Is the touch-up paint the basecoat?

thanks

Yes the touch up is the base/color coat.

You can add primer to that if you want also.

You interested in just swapping them for mine?

I have a 95 Max color code DJ2. Since I'm at tech as well we could just do the work @ the same time?

If you are going to buy a spray can, try www.towerpaint.com. It is much cheaper and you get 3.5oz more 16oz compared to 12.5) than paintscratch.com's can. I've purchased from them 2x and the paint matched perfectly.

Edit: You can also use the clearcoat spray cans found in Pepboys/Kragen/autozone, etc instead of the ones paintscratch is selling. I've used Duplicolor's clear coat (less than 1/2 the price of paintscratch's price) on my "projects" and they turned out fine.

DJ2 or DR2? I dont think there is a DJ2. My code is DPO (Deep Evergreen) and I think yours is Sherwood green which is different.

It is DJ2. I have a Nissan paint touchup applicator and the color code on there and on paintscratch is DJ2. Colors vary by year....

Thanks, I just ordered from them. Can't beat paying half as much for more paint. The place seems kinda old fashioned but paint is paint. The guy I spoke with said I should have it within 8 days.

He said that according to the Nissan Manual, code DP0 (Deep Evergreen) was called like Dark Pearl Metallic or something but the description of the picture to go along with it matched my car (really dark green, looks almost black). Interesting...

Thanks Smooth Operator

You just saved me a bundle! I ordered my paint from TowerPaint instead of PaintScratch.

I'm also very skeptical of spending nearly $20 on a can of clearcoat. Actually, I have a can "clear" Krylon spraypaint and I'm wondering how well it will do compared to something specifically labeled "clearcoat". It is rated for outdoor use...

Re: Thanks Smooth Operator

Just received my paint from Tower. I havent started on my project but in just testing, the color looks damn near perfect, atleast on a paper plate . As for the clear coat and primer, I picked those up at Home Depot for $8 for both.

Thanks again.

I have that can you're referring to:

I have the Krylon too. Personally I wasn't comfortable using the Krylon on a car. I went ahead and purchased clearcoat from pepboys. The plasti-kote "CAR COLOR" clear gave me a bit more assurance because its labeled for automotive paints. Both cans may contain the same clearcoat paint but I wanted some peace-of-mind. Plus it was only $3-4 a can. You can be our test monkey

Are you going to paint over the chrome or are you going to remove the finish?

Youre not going to paint the Door B pillars with the extra paint are you.

I was going to paint over the chrome window trim: first I was going to sand down the trim with 600 grid sandpaper, then prime, then finish with a black spray w/ no clear coat.

I was going to follow the same process with the chrome door handles except use a clear coat to finish. Is there an easier way you are referring to?

As for the B pillar, that's already done. I just pulled off the vinyl tape. I really wish I knew about that this past summer when I painted over it.

I hear you. Heck, for only $3-4 a can, I think I'll go the plasti-kote route also. I'm not going to monkey around with my cherished Maxima.
