Replaced knock sensor - OMG!!!!

replaced my knock sensor this weekend. it was a bicth but i did it. had to lose a little skin off of my right hand. if your hands are bigger than a size ten dont attempt. i stuck my hand in that crack with the possibility of getting it stuck.

butt dyno at first couldnt register any power gain but after about a day - god bless - that 3-4grand pull is back!!

my car had been running real $hitty ever since the CEL(knock sensor) came on. i believe this was the culprit to my power losses. props to swafford98 and d98_se for their help.

to top it all of i coming home from work and what do i see a pontiac bonnville ssei. i didnt know if he wanted to race but i kept an eye on him. light turns green i he guns it im like hell yeah!! we are even through 1 and 2nd. the secind i hit third i JUMPED 1/4 length on him.it was like i sprayed on him . once i started to walk him he backed off.

bonnvilles

Replace it if the code is out. If the car pulls then there is no need to change it. Do a little test Put in 1st gear(if u r 5spd) and then drive at like 2K rpms in 1st gear and then gently but fast start flooring. The tires should light up. I love doing that. Dont just foolr it cause it wont do it then(at least it dont work for me)

Hey ladies, I just had to put my .02 in. I also replaced my KS and rear O2 sensor. I'm just starting to feel the effects. Like Nismo said, It is back to normal pulling. I'm ready to go to the track, who's going w/me?

You need to pull the code and check which O2 sensor it needs. There are three different ones. It is possibly hurting your performance by making your car run either rich or lean.

How did you got the darn knock sensor off? I just don't know how. My hands are small enough to fit in their. When I put a small socket wrench in there, it fit, but I couldn't budge it, just not enough room have to get leverage. The main problem I'm having now is getting that bolt off.

You need one of those long bars that will accept a socket instead of the rachet. Those will just barely fit in there for you to turn the bolt.

Did you use that just to break it or take the whole thing off? If you did the whole thing with it how did you get it back on?

You mean a breaker bar? I have one, I thought about using it. However, my breaker bar is the 1/2" one and I don't have the right socket for it now. Yeah, I can see it will just barely fit. I'm going to only use it to break it, then use a smaller racket to get it off.

Yeah thats what I said to try in the other post but one thing might be can you reach your hand in to put the bolt back on later? Just so you dont get it off then realize your hands cannot fit in there or something.

you have to use a 3/8 rachet w/extension and a pivot attachment. it worked perfect. to get it started and hand tight you must stick your hand in the hole.

i suggest the but dyno. if it doesnt "feel" the way it used to invest in a knock sensor.

I did my install with a 1/4" ratchet and long extension with a swivel and a 12 mm socket. It was pretty tight and was scared to break the bolt, but I just went for it and it broke loose. To put back, use the same extension and swivel socket combo to finesse the bolt back on and start it with the hand. Once you have it barely started, then you can put the ratchet back on and finish. It's actually a pain the a**, but I'm glad I got it done.
