How hard is it to install motor mounts?

Can some one run down what's involve and any special tools I will need?

i think the most difficult part is getting the bolts off (gotta love air tools). after that it's pretty basic job. just support the engine.

if you are just replacing stock mounts...it's not that bad...the PR mounts are a B!TCH....becuase they give you absolutely NO play at all to line up bolt holes. The hardest part I found was to loosen and remove the bolt that holds the rear mount to the engine. I used all hand tools though.

One tip I can give you is to first remove the 4 large bolts that hold the crossmember that the engine mounts are bolted to and let it hang while the engine is supported...then remove the bolts that hold the mounts to the engine.

I am thinking about PR mounts. Looks like I need an engine hoist. I don't know anyone that has one and I don't have room to buy/store one. I might leave this to the pros.

If you want your car to vibrate your _ off, then sure go ahead get the P/R mounts. Its even worse for an auto. You do not need a hoist at all, you just drop the lower crossmember. Read my post about homemade poly mounts, I include some pointers on installing motor mounts as well. All you need are a buncha 17 mm sockets (deep well 6 point), a floor jack, jack stands and about 3 feet of extensions to get the rear mount through bolt out. Some may be stuck, so you may need to air impact them off.

I'd really like to strengthen my engine mounts, but the down time on my car is making this project more difficult to plan. Eric would you reccomend getting new mounts and filling it or are reusing old ones still ok? I'd rather not pay for new mounts, but at least then I could cure them correctly before putting them on the car. Also what is a torque strap. I read about it on the other page, but I have no idea what it is.

If you dont want downtime, buy new mounts. But, I think its perfectly acceptable to urethane the used mounts, so long as they are not already split. If it is split, just go buy another one.

Torque straps are the lower mounts on the crossmember for a transverse mounted engine.

Motor mounts for an automagic? Is there any benefit? I know motor mounts help reduce/eliminate wheel hop on 5spd, but what does it do for an automagic?
