Everything on my car was/is done myself except for the springs which were installed by Millennium Autosports. They are a very good shop I highly recommend but I prefer D-I-Y.

Of all the mods that I have, leather seats, Levoc shift ****, fog lights, fstb and speakers were installed by me. Suspension, rsb and sub/amp were installed professionally.

I am a die hard DIYer, excepting tire mounting, alignment, wheel balance and body work. On this car, I've done exhaust, polyurethaned motor mounts, full transmission rebuild (twice), clutch job, full stereo install, trailer hitch install, trailer hitch lights, rear lights cleaning, rewiring front lights, I cant remember them all... I've done suspension on my old camry, so I plan to do it again on this car as well. Its amazing how much you learn about your car (and its engineering weaknesses) and cars in general, as well as save tons of money by doing it yourself.

Well, I'm not mechanically inclined, but I'd like to be. I have only installed new Headlights bulbs, Shift **** & FTSB on my car. On My GF's 240SX, changed the shift ****, FTSB, Air Filter, fuel filter. Next we're going to try doing our own oil change and changing the window regulator (wish me luck on that one).

There's nothing like doing it yourself. I've done all the intake and exhaust work, FSTB/RSTB/RSB, struts (Koni fronts), AGX rears, springs, brakes, short throw shifter, leather interior, evap canister fix, front lip and paint, little modifications here and there, and all general maintenance and trouble shooting. I won't touch anything with the tranny or internals of the motor. That's something I'll leave to the pros.

If you do it yourself, you'll need a shop manual, full metric deep and short socket set, torque wrench, various screw drivers, 2+ ton jack, jack stands, good shop light, volt meter, rubber mallet, various pliers, spring compressors, and a warm garage. If your have all this gear, you can tackle about any job on a Maxima. Nissan engineered this car to be pretty easy to work on.

not that i really have any real mods for speed, but i've done everything myself except the earlier mentioned tire alignment and balance. i did my own leather seats, guages, starter, springs, and even my own body kit work other then painting it.

I do everything my self and take pride in doing so. I have installed enough things over the last few years to fill up a whole page(honestly). Most things can be installed with basic knowledge, getting good at doing installs takes some time though. Only thing I will not do is remove a motor or transmission, I would if I had a garage though, sand driveways don't work well with wheels

D.I.Y...as much as possible..if you want something done RIGHT...you NEED to do it yourself...no amount of money or honesty will override someones desire to cut corners..be lazy..or not pay attention. It's pretty rare that a mechanic will consider YOUR car..to be his own and treat it the way it should..IMO..if you want your car to be flawless..you better grab the jack stands and wrenches. There are exceptions of course..especially with engine internals...transmission which requie some decent education...and knowlege the shop manual just dosen't provide..but im sure everyone will agree..that the 1st drive right after your modify something yourself is definatly something not to forget...i remember comming home at 9pm from my job at best buy...with my intake in my hands..setting up the 1 shop light...wrenches....25 minits later..engine still hot...*ROAR* theres nothing like investing your time in something you care about!

I'm proud to say that the dedication of myself and my friends have made my Max what it is today. Exceptions are my Alpine CVA-1005 (too many wires..didn't want to deal with it), and my Y-pipe (couldn't get the Cat Bolts off..had to take it to Rayco for torching).

I've done everything myself with the exception of tinting and tire work (mounting and balancing).

Haven't done internal engine or transmission/clutch work on the Maxima's yet, but that's a result of not having to. When the time comes I'll be more than ready to.

I do all minor work.

Like the oil changes, FSTB, RSB. I took it to midas to install the y-pipe($50) b/c I didnt have a jack or long enough extensions. As for the springs I was going to try those, but I was by myself and only had 5 hours so I took it to EastSide Motorsports ($125) and watch this guy sonny knock it out in 1 1/2 hours. I would never have thought to have someone stand on the rotor to get the shock assemble out.

DIY

the only thing i cant do is welding. so the custom exhaust was done by a shop. other than that the only reson i take my car somwhere is if i dont have the time or equipment to do it myself. nissan did do my clutch(twice), and front wheel bearing. the more and more i learn the less i have to take it somewhere else.

FSTB, Oil and Plugs was all I'd ever done when I decided to have my timing belt changed. Prices were too high locally and I didn't have the time, so I waited and changed it myself (along w/ water pump and drive belts). I have some good friends and a father with engine experience, it's DIY from now on.

I go both ways depending on how hard the job is. Plus there isnt to many people out here to lend a hand. Espically since I own a MAX.

No, I couldn't pass that up. Its okay, we all do it. Just yesterday I thanked my roommate for "grabbing my package". I quickly change that to "getting my springs from the apartment office".

Nothing like having access to a lift when you need it.

I don't think you have to list wheel mounting and balancing because I'm sure almost everyone need help with that. Unless you happen to own a shop with a wheel mounting and balancing machine.

As far as me, I'm still learning.

In the eight months that I have owned my max, it has only been to the shop once. I had to have a lug nut cut off. Everything else, from mods to repairs (thermostat and wheel stud) to maintenance, I have done myself. However, there are definitely some jobs that I won't be able to tackle here at school because I don't have a garage to work in. I get some really strange looks when the max is jacked up in the parking lot, but it's worth it to DIY. I learn something with everything I do to the car, and there is a great feeling of satisfaction.
